Just seen that Bernie Sanders brother is standing, excelsior!! biggrin

Too may candidates for the boxes, most are no hopers anyway.

Will this by-election provide vindication, a twist, or mere amusement. Place your bets and spin the deal. biggrin

Imagine all those disaffected EU fans giving their vote to the LibDems since Tiny Tim came out as the only pro EU party. Watch that yellow bird soar to new heights.
Yes, I'm joking.

I live here! I have never seen in all my years of voting such a frantic bunch! I have had 5 Tory letters though my letterbox, 1 Lab, 6 Lib-Dums (one was even a fake newspaper called the Chronicle - delivered free throughout Oxfordshire! (really?) - they must be spending the whole Lib-Dum account that's left!
May was here WITH CAMERON walking the streets with Courts.
And F. knows how many times Tim Dum Dim Farron has been here for the Lib-Dums - the candidate Leffman actually thinks she can win!!
Dickie Bird (kipper) had an old classic American car going round the town at the weekend. 'bout the only welcome site!
Also at the weekend I was collared by a Lib-Dum...
'Would you like a leaflet, will you be voting?'
'No and Yes'.
'Can we rely on your vote?'
'Why would I vote for Lib-Dems?'
'The Tories are a disaster and Labour can't win Witney.'
So I said 'Witney is thriving, yes?'
'Yes'.
'Why do you think that is?'
'Because it's a thriving town.'
'Yes, but WHY?'
So he put it back to me.
I said 'It's thriving at the weekend because people come here for one reason, FREE car parking. In Oxford you have to pay 17 quid to park your car for a few hours. They (from Oxford and elsewhere come here because it's FREE! A multi-story car park ...FREE! Everywhere here is FREE! YOU Lib-Dums want to end that don't you?'
'Yes, because the money gained can go back into the economy.'

Oh, go away, Lib-DUM I f. give up!

And if you're wondering how much money the bankrupt Lib-Dums are spending...

Everything is plastered with them, they even pop up online when you want to read something Tory or Lab or Kipp or Green or whatever.
Surely, they will be truly bankrupt if they come 4th in Witney again? Hope so!

Just dug the leaflet out of the trash and can't see a mention of getting rid of the parking (or anything other than slagging off the tories), where was that announced? Can't see many voting for that around here as most people realise it's why the town is thriving.

Edit - badly phrased

Having lived in the constituency for most of my life (although now I'm overseas) I reckon that the Tories could field a hamster or a donkey as candidate and they'd still get elected.

Can't imagine that changing anytime soon!

It isn't in the Lib-Dum leaflet(s) - they are not that stupid when an election is imminent. They (Lib-Dums) locally have previously been in favour of some sort of charging at the main car park(s) in Witney - it's on record. I even mentioned it on the doorstep this evening (the Lib-Dums are not giving up, they really (really!) think they can win this seat. Oh dear!). 'You advocate parking charges so I'm not voting for you.' About to shut door and got this 'I will take that back with me and report. We take all on board. Thank you. Please reconsider - your vote is vitally important.' No kidding!

Then - bloody hell! They really are going to town!
I got this through the letterbox, 3 page handwritten letter in a personal addressed A5 pale blue envelope - missed a trick there, should have used yellow surely or is it to make us think it's Tory? (just called some friends here - they have all had the same, personalised addressed handwritten! envelope). The 'letter' looks handwritten (complete with spelling error!) but it is actually 'printed'.
Do the Lib-Dums have any money left in their kitty? Spending it like no tomorrow.

Here you have it. The choice is between Tory and Lib-Dum. 'Red' marks are mine.

I also live in the constituency. Every day the I'm the post bombarded by all parties. But the lib dems must be verging on harassment. Iv seen multiple posts on FB with people complaining about the leaflets.

I feel sorry for people living in Witney who have to deal with them coming round to post more and asking for the vote.

We'll have the result in a few hours. The Tories should win quite easily however it will be interesting to see if the Lib Dems can pip Labour to second place.

Seeing a lot on twitter of people saying how well the lib dems have been doing in Witney and that they are glad to have helped with leafleting and so on. Slight problem when you look at there location none of them are from anywhere near Witney.....

They have not been 'doing well in Witney', they have been harassing at a level never ever seen before in my lifetime of voting! I've had everything thrown at me bar the kitchen sink in Lib-Dum paraphernalia. Unbelievable, even a phone call again today.

'IF' they pip Labour to 2nd Corbyn will have to give up. Labour has always had a reasonable following in Witney, but never enough to trouble the Tories (no, I wouldn't vote Labour!).

I can't see Lib-Dums coming 2nd - crikey, they were annihilated at the GE. I think the Tory will win comfortably but not by the margin CMD had. Will be interesting to see where Ukip come - I think 4th (3rd last time) as their campaign was low profile, or compared to the Lib-Dums absolutely non-existent! The Lib-Dums must at this point now be bankrupt with the amount they have spent on this by-election.

Here, you have some it. I'm sick of it!

Massive swing towards the Lib Dums.

I know it'a a by election and 'unusual', but the Conservative majority being slashed by 20,000 is quite something.

one of four or a combination

1- Anti brexit vote 2 fingers to the Tories.

2- swing to the only Pro EU party remaining.

3- CMD is a big turn off now and they wanted to send a message to him on his way out the door.

4- CMD had x factor that made people vote for him, now he is gone the vote drops.

Beexiteer predictions bang on the money as usual rolleyes

Lib Dem surge to 30% of vote.

A hefty wedge of that will be anti-brexit.

The slashed majority is pretty surprising imho.
I thought this seat was about as true blue as is possible to be - used to be Douglas Hurd's seat iirc.
