The children now being accepted into UK by Home Office officials, children? Ages 14 to 17? I don't think so. And why no girls? Many with no papers and depending on visual assessment by officers. When I think of 'children' I think of ages 0 to 12.

to be fair up to 18 is still considered a child isn't it? That being the case why should foreign born not be considered children up to the same age? Do take your point on girls though!!

As a further aside I also do wonder how many of those children checked out as actually being children?

I think 18 is considered to be the age when a child turns into an adult, but I think in this case the UK is making exceptions for the officers eyesight.

I'd imagine the cost of a trip to Specsavers is a cost the Home Office won't bear.

These two have had a hard life to date, the first 'child' has more worry lines than me, and it was a considerable number of years since I was 18! The second looks older than my son, who would be rightfully pissed off if I called him a child.

It's a joke, surely!

Anyone remember that Only Fools and Horses episode where they tried to pass Rodney off as 14?

Is the strapping fella above one of the "children" Lilly Allen was weeping over a few days ago?

The authorities are destroying any sympathy, or the chance of a deserving case making it over.

Now you see why the liberalisers got rid of the word 'teenager'. The most apt word for anyone between 13 and 19.
They ensured anyone over 5 and under 25 are all termed 'Young People'. rolleyes This term has been spouted by liberalisers for the last 10 or more years, almost as common as 'climate change'. The brainwashing starts at nappy age today.

Now it's changed again, many people expecting to see 'children' (under 12) from the Calais camp have all had a bit of a shock.
Seems now anyone under 18 (or looking at some pics today, even older!) are deemed 'children'.

I was a 'teenager' in the 60s, if anyone had called us 'children' they'd have had a fking riot on their hands! hehe

What a f. liberalising sthole this country has become.

Ooh yeah! Lets stick it to the Army 'cos they use 'child soldiers'

The British Army 'employ' 16 year olds, with parental consent, so they can TRAIN and learn a trade. They are not allowed to serve in conflict areas until they are 18.

Some of those 'Jungle Children' haven't seen 18 for a few years.....

Yeah. rolleyes
That's what all 'young people' today say.

Wish I could take you back, it was the most fking brilliant of time. You sure you ain't envious?
Difference too was that we respected our elders.
Probably why we learnt so much. Like punctuation and spelling...
Don't needs an apostrophe, and one exclamation mark suffices, no need for two.

Don't they take him to Spain for a poetry competition? I remember that, pissed myself laughing at him walking away with some bags of duty free, glass bottles clinking away.

Unaccompanied migrant children is a good one in Sweden, this chap must have had one hell of a paper round laugh

That "lads" paper round must have been the Himalayas.

I am particularly taken by the Home Office comment quoted in the Daily Mail.

"A Home Office spokesman admitted that routine medical tests, such as checking dental records, have not been carried out because it could be 'intrusive'. "

I suspect we all find lots of things HMG does to be "intrusive"

So, will these strapping 'children' be attending the same schools our real children go to?

If yes, does anyone with kids not see a problem?

Standby for all photographs of the poor young things to be blurred out to avoid awkward questions, sorry, keep their identities safe from predatory paedo's

rolleyes

(And yes, a lot of them DID look like younger teens. They are not the ones I would be worried about when placed in accommodation with lads and girls of the same age as my daughter!)

laugh

I hadn't seen that one.

Meet Hans from Afghanistan, my heart goes out to an 11 year old that has to cope with that amount of facial hair at 11, poor mite.
He's only just discovered that pulling his penis gives him a fuzzy feeling

Sorry, I thought you were. I shall wind my neck in smile

I know quite a few ex 'Child Soldiers' who would do it all again if they could, having had a great time.

I definitely agree that a common, 'catch all' age would be better.
