Where have all the good Civic Type R's gone?
Discussion
I will concede the ride is too firm ideally for the UK roads, but I didn't have any problems driving it at silly speeds on any road. If the going got tough (bumpy) then my Phase 1 172 did soak the bumps up much better. However, again, the Type-R is better in every other way: better engine, faster, better driving position, interior, steering wheel, looks, reliability, practicality, build quality. Literally in every way. These things are of course, all subjective
As for owning lots of cars, so have I, including a DC2. The FN2 is nowhere near as bad as you paint it out to be, at all. But nobody is going to change anyone's mind, so I'll leave it at that
ETA I've not drive a Clio 200 but I can imagine it would be better handling than the FN2 quite easily (and also the EP3), it had a much better chassis than the Mk2 Clio, the Honda still has a much better engine though.

You're comparing cars of different ages and sizes.Probably best to compare the Civic to a Ford Focus ST (5 pot), Renaultsport Clio 200/ Renaultsport Megane, Vauxhall Astra VXR, etc.
I'd prefer any of the above to an FN2.

Drive one ![/footnote]
The interior is a bit basic (even with Recaros), gearboxes are made of chocolate and the build quality is not to Honda standards.
However, the RS200 is a great car. I loved mine.
The engine doesn't have the character of the Honda's but it's probably just as quick in a straight line and quicker in the twisty bits.
If we could have the Focus' engine in a Renaultsport chassis with Honda build quality (although some would say that is over-rated) we'd be on to a winner.

I have a 182 cup at the moment it covers ground on a bumpy b road at a pace that the fn2 could only dream of, makes me giggle too. The fn2 is too stiff for uk roads and left me frustrated as it struggled putting power down as the tyres were skipping over the surface and the front end always tried to push wide unless you gave it a dollop of left foot brake, not exactly confidence inspiring.
Are you still arguing with yourself? Not sure that anyone has said an FN2 is better than an EP3 anywhere on this thread; yet you seem convinced that you must endlessly fight an argument that only you seem to be involved in.
Reminds me of the (infamous) owner of a German hot hatch.
Also can we please stop comparing the FN2 to Renaultsport Clios, the Clio is a much smaller and lighter car like a Fiesta and the Focus ST is never slated for not being as nimble as a Fiesta ST
If R26 Megane owners miss the handling of of the 182/197/200 then so will an FN2 owner coming from a Clio

An FN2 TypeR was on my shortlist for when my Fiesta ST lease goes back in Feb but this thread isn't the most positive lol I suppose I'll just have to drive one nearer the time and decide. An EP3 is better for my budget but as it's a daily driver and coming from two cars which have had all the usual modern options it may be a big basic for me

I've not come from anything overly lavish, but I love the basic nature of the EP3, a car should concentrate on being a car, and not a mobile office, music studio, social media wifi hub, I don't care what my mpg is, I don't care how many miles are left in the tank, I can read the gauges, I don't even miss the lack of a clock in mine anymore. raceboy said:

Facelift even has outside temperature gauge... win
My pre facelift has, it's called the window, I roll it down, if it's a bit nippy, it's probably a bit cold outside, it also has a few other settings, if I look out of it and see the woman at the bus stop has a coat on, it's a bit colder, if I see the cars on the street iced up after I roll out the nice warm garage then it's the next level of cold... My car was pretty well spec'd. Air con AND fogs
I did look at one car that had Nav and leather, the nav was so out of date it was hilarious and the leather meant you slid off the seats when cornering hard.
The EP3 has the best located cup holder in and all it needs is a modern radio/Bluetooth head unit and you're away IMI.

It does seem one of the few cars where cars specced with leather seem LESS desirable than those without, and I'd say nearly all factory Nav's are surpassed by a TomTom especially when the cars getting on a bit. The quantity of cup holders amaze me, and the ability to loose anything I put in the slidey multi level centre console bucket thing.
Oh yeah my centre console is full of junk. It was very annoying when I had to remove the centre console last week after dropping one of the clips for the gear cables when fitting my short shifter.
The Premier or JDM recaros are the best OEM seat for the EP3. I need to get some spoon rails to drop them a little for a better position but standard they are loads better than the standard EP3 seat.
