Why discount the ones that are 'miles away'? You can get pretty much anywhere in the uk in a day. Make sure the seller sends all the pictures and information on the car to satisfy your expectations, the get the train and drive it home. Whats a day of travel for the car you want.
I did 8 hours on the train for mine. Then an enjoyable 5 hour drive back!
Exactly this, if it's the right car I don't see a few hours travel being an issue.

I had a 7 hour train ride North to Sunderland to buy my Accord Type R, the previous owner having bought it from a guy all the way down in Dorset... I then sold it to a chap who came all the way over from North Wales!

My DC2 Integra I sold to a guy from Holland- he said my car was the exact spec he was after so he traveled over the night before, stayed in a hotel, bought the car in the morning and drove it back. nuts

I couldn't imagine trying to limit myself locally when buying a car- it often takes long enough to find the right car/condition/spec even with a national search!

Mine came from a local independent, one owner prior to me, some old insurance documents were in the glove box, he was in the army!

The car was a credit to the chap too in so far as I could tell, the alloys and paint were spot on, apart from one evil stone chip on the bonnet (thin FN2 paint), four matching and good quality tyres, car had been serviced on the button - couldn't complain at all!

It's bronze too, which was quite a rare colour as I believe it was a costly factory option, looks lovely when it's clean and the sun is shining (not that often up here sadly).

It had Rage alloys but I binned 'em off, they ruin the ride completely.
Never seen a bronze one! Only thing that I might want to add is the GP kit as it gives it a more aggressive stance. Already added Parking sensors as the rear spoiler is crap for visibility, but strangely good at blocking headlight glare from other cars following you.

Yeah stone chips are a nightmare with the Honda paint, but I'm not too hung up about it as I use it daily to enjoy.
Need the fronts replacing soon with the some decent tyres. Looking at Asymmetric 3s.
Will be venturing down to Goodwood in Nov for the Hot Hatch Breakfast Club!

I hear what everyone is saying distance is not an excuse, I've just always been lazy/lucky that the cars I've wanted have popped up locally.

Out of interest does anyone know how many premier edition EP3's were produced?

My experience is that a sub £3.5 EP3 will be rough. A sub £3k example will almost certainly bark and play fetch with you.

Secondly, I travelled from Glasgow to Birmingham to collect mine - I have no problems travelling for the right car.

Thirdly, certain mods on an EP3 are almost de rigueur; good geo setup & a decent airbox being two of such.

Crazy prices these days ey. Same with any performance car of this type I guess.
Look at DC2's mate. I remember turning down a Milano JDM car for £1800 about 7 years ago rofl Ah well.
Yeah the DC2s have gone mental haven't they. I bought one for £2200 a few years ago. The very same car is currently advertised at £4750...

I bought mine 2 years ago, 1 owner from new, Full Honda service history and completely standard.

Then proceeded to change everything on it rofl

The cars are out there but you need to pay strong money for a clean low mileage standard car!!
Criminal ruining a great standard 1 owner full Honda service history. Why didn't you go for another example to mess around with.
They made more than 35,000 of the EP3 Type R. Hardly a rare car, by any stretch of the imagination.
The OP is probably being too picky, and you're definitely being too melodramatic.

Went to have a look at another EP3 yesterday, premier edition, 90k, advertised as 'good' service history, £4500. It was a dog, clutch biting very high, multiple dents and scratches which couldn't be seen in the photos or weren't mentioned, oil very dirty.

I must be the only person who actually lost money on a DC2 hehe

Albeit only a small amount, and looking back I almost certainly sold it too cheap.

It probably explains why the buyer, only a day after the advert went live, drove all the way over from Holland and paid me the full asking price in cash with no haggling... I've never been great at judging values when selling cars! rotate

Was that recently? I have a friend in Holland who regularly comes over here to buy S2ks/Type Rs to break for parts over there. Makes quite a penny doing it too. Especially on S2000s!

No this was April 2012. I know the time pretty well because a chunk of the money paid for a trip to Ibiza that summer!

ETA: and the lad was definitely keeping it on the road- mine was fairly heavily modified (a 97-spec JDM modified to 98-spec with a few Mugen parts, genuine Volks TE37s etc) and was the exact spec he'd been looking for. Apparently due to the way their tax worked at the time it was cheaper for him to buy a car from the UK than a similarly spec'd car locally.

Half your budget and get a decent Clio 172/182 wink

They're gonna be heading, if they haven't already, into the realms of the Honda S2000. They started to become cheap and were bought by taste-less chavs who realised this and then set about ruining them with horrible mods, not servicing them properly and probably crashing/writing them off. This means that clean ones are hard to come by which means their prices are sky-rocketing.

It's a real shame. Decent Premier Editons are even more. Makes the JDM ones look cheap frown

Whilst I do agree with this- they are incredible cars for half the price of a decent EP3- in my experience anyone who is a fan of/used to Type Rs will find the seating position of the Clios a bit too 'sit-up-and-beg'.

I loved the 172 cup my mate had, but to me it was a car that offered cheap fun and the seating position (compared to all the Type Rs I had owned/driven) stopped me from ever wanting to own one.

I agree though, for what they are available for at the moment they are an absolute bargain.

I wouldn't consider an FN2 if you enjoy driving, great engine gearbox combination as per the EP3 but a massive let down in terms of chassis and feel. I would hold out for a decent EP3 or as suggested get a Clio Cup.

Probably not feasible for what you have to spend, but I doubt you'd lose much on a well-bought FD2 smile

Utter nonsense, out of the factory the FN2 wasn't setup properly. A FN2 with geo done is more than a match for an EP3 also with geo done.
