Come off m6 at Penrith. 689 Alston, then over Hendon bridge and head towards otterburn. Detour round rothbury, over towards the a1 but then swing back (past woofer I think it was) so you're away from the a1. Pick up the 696 again a bit north of otterburn, then that takes you nicely up towards Edinburgh.

Or, kielder. Anywhere near there is ace smile

Watch out for the speeding gestapo as soon as you get north of the border tho. Used to be loads of cameras, and that was years ago before the whole world got more anti-speed.

I think you meant Haydon Bridge and Wooler. If you go that way it will be the A697, not the A696, otherwise you'll be heading back the way you came.

Agreed. Restraint is the watchword on the A697 and A68. Check the list here - http://www.safetycameras.gov.scot/cameras/safety-c...

Warrington to Settle,
B6479 to Ribblehead then right to Hawes,
head over Buttertubs to Thwaite and then on up to Kirby Stephenson,
after that head across to Middleton-in-Teesdale along the B6276,
then up to Alston on the B6277.
From Alston A686 to Haydon Bridge,
Haydon Bridge then to Bellingham (shortest/quickest route will do),
Bellingham up past Kielder water to Saughtree (not sure of the road name but it passes right next to Kielder along its western shore).
Not sure from here as my Scotland knowledge is sketchy although you've probably used up most of your day by this point and you are still a fair way from Stirling haha

LE JOG classic car rallye 2009 route.

Yorkshire dales:
Leave A59 at Sawley
North towards Wigglesworth
Turn east just before Wigglesworth (before joining the B6478)
Go into Hellifield
Leave Hellifield towards Otterburn, Airton, then Malham
Go into Arncliffe, follow B-road eastwards
Go north on B6160 into Kettlewell
Leave Kettlewell NE until Melmerby
Leave Melmery NW, turn E again, then into Wensley
Leyburn, leave NW into Reeth
Continue into Langthwaite
Turn N after Langthwaite until you reach Barnard Castle
Take B6278 NW out of Barnard Castle
In Eggleston, switch to B6282 westwards
At Newbiggin, turn N towards Westgate
At Westgate, go east into Stanhope but not on the A689 but on the small unclassified road south of it, a marvellous road
From Stanhope, the rallye went towards Newcastle, which would take you way off your path.

Further nord, we approach Kielder:
Leave A68 to the west just after Horsley
Kielder drive on gravel into Kielder
North towards Denholm (first on unclassified road, then B6357)
Take A7, leave at Ashkirk towards NW, into Ettrickbridge, then Yarrow
A708 westwards, then B709 northwards
Continue northwards on B7007
Turn W before North Middleton, towards the Gladhouse Reservoir
Rejoin B6372 westwards, then B7026 northwards
You then go into Edinburgh.
