Good evening PHers, am considering selling my manual V10 R8(Any takers, PM me), and possibly buying one of the above or similar. Any advice on these or others you have experienced. Any help or comments would be much appreciated.

We have had a new shape RRS from new. Its just turned 3 years old and has been excellent. I purchased a 5 year service plan which is good value. When I decide to change, we will either go with another RR or the new Discovery.

Absolutely none and this has also been the same experience with the Discovery 3 (owned for 4 years and sold to a Ph member) and followed by a Discovery 4 which we also kelp for 4 years.

A couple of items have been fixed under Warranty - D3 needed a parking sensor and the RRS had the rear brake pads replaced due to them squeaking. There have also been approx 4 recalls which were expected given my car was delivered 1 month after launch. The security issue which is affecting many car manufacturers has been addressed.

I had a short go in an SQ5 belonging to a customer, it was surprisingly good.

I like the looks of the Macan better but for value and availability I'd take the Audi.

The X3 35d has the same power as the SQ5 and it's same size, worth a look? The majority of Macan's appear to have the lower powered 2.0 diesel so could be a wait for something with some get-up-and-go, which you'll sorely miss after your current car!

Your right that I would like a 3 litre for a little get up and go if possible, but most Macan diesels I've seen have been the 3 litre V6, I am just looking on Autotrader and there are no 2 litre diesels models ? Only 3 litre diesel, 3 litre petrol or a few 2 litre petrol models Not sure a 2 litre diesel exists in UK ?

Sorry - my mistake - coffee hasn't kicked in yet! You're quite right. 2.0 petrols a go-go. The Macan does look good.

SQ5 not cheap either, but are available now at least. I'm with you that Macan looks better, but gees, Porsche dont half know how to charge for an option or two !!

It does look good, but just looking on web now, quite easily made a 46k car, a near 70k car with options....WTF !!! They like to charge eh ??

The stupidly named F-Pace is worth a look IMO. Supercharged V6 is quick too.

We have a Macan 3 litre diesel on our fleet, been here 16 months now.

Been a paragon of virtue & our OPC has been brilliant with the 2 'issues' we've had, Tracker fob battery failure & an Adblue refill.

''Tis true that they charge like a wounded rhino!!

Looked at the Q5 variants when considering a change, Evoque was in running until we tried it too.

Ours is leased & is actually cheaper per month than the SQ5 quote at the time due to stronger GFV.

If we were doing this now I think the F Pace would also have a shout, although some say the interior is a bit Meh!

Yes, may have a peak when go to Jag/LR today. Not sure on waiting list, but don't like to pay a premium on used cars so will ask the question today

Indeed.

I was looking at similar options about 6 months ago, and the Macan drove so much better than the SQ5, you really wouldn't think they were platform related.....but the SQ5 has the grunt if its a diesel you want. I was initially looking at a petrol Macan, but circumstances changed and I needed to look at diesels, so the Macan got struck from the list, as nice as it did drive, the engine just lacked that little bit of something for me.
If they were allowed to put the SQ5's engine in the Macan that would have been perfect, but, as nice as the engine in the SQ5 is, the rest of it left me as cold as the diesel engine in the Macan!!

I've ended up staying with BMW and am going for a X5 order in the next few weeks.

Thanks, I like the X5 but it's a bit big for my needs, let me know how you get on though.

RR is a lot bigger....?

But yes, its bigger than my needs, the X3 would suit me better but, I'm getting on a bit and want some luxury, and the X5 is much better than the X3 in that respect, especially with the comfort seat option and better build quality as well smile

There are better deals going on the X3 though at the moment as its due for replacement this time next year.

The thing about the BM for me is I've got so used to the IDrive and the info tech etc., and the equivalent in the Audi/Porsche/RR products is not nearly as good.

I have a Macan Turbo and have previously owned a Range Rover Sport and a Range Rover Evoque. My thoughts:

Macan: Great piece of engineering. Great handling. Turbo is one of the quickest cross-country cars you can get. Comes alive when you drive it at 9/10th or faster.

Range Rover: Unparalleled feel good factor which applies whether you are crossing the country or going to Tescos. Not really very sporty. Feels great up to 9/10ths then Macan is better.

Audi SQ5: Why would you? The Macan is better.

RR Evoque: Very good car but, like the bigger RRs, it gets a bit ragged above 9/10th (mainly due to the 4-cylinder and auto gearbox).

From the thread so far, the Macan looks to be a good choice. It's a great handling car and, whilst it is expensive to buy, it holds its value reasonably well.

However, if you can afford it, the SVR version of the Range Rover Sport would probably be top of my list.......
