Audi SQ5: Why would you? The Macan is better.
Not if bootpsace (usable, not litres), legroom and practicality are required. The Macan is on the whole superior in every way, but it is significantly smaller then the Q5.

Interesting topic as I am in the same predicament.

I currently run a BMW 520d estate and a S/C RR Sport.
I am looking for my next company car to cover both.
So 50000 miles a year, around 35-40 mpg.
Big boot as I fill the car at the weekend for shooting competitions.

Was initially set on the Mercedes GLC but think it and the SQ5 Macan are all too small in the derrière.

So then got a quote on a Two litre RR Sport but its too pricey on a fully serviced 150K mile lease.

I am waiting on the costs to come in for a new Discovery 2.0L HSE as I think that will cover all bases.

Both father in law and Sister in law have RR Sports, the fil loves his, the sil hates hers! She's come from a BMW X5 which in here opinion is infinitely better than the RR but here has been up on blocks a few times, generally electrical faults with the keyless entry. The fil's has been fine.

I wouldn't say significantly....Macan is actually slightly longer than the Q5, but I'd say the only significant difference is the more sloping rear roofline of the Macan which means rear vertical load space is slightly less.
Interior room seemed about the same (small differences either way) from my test drives and look at both...incl a quick tape measure comparison which is a bit anal, but the old fashioned ways are often the quickest to check such stuff. Front space 'feels' less in the Macan because of the Porsche console design...and seating feels lower and more car like in Macan, compared to Q5.
Porsche chassis and PDK tranny is in another league though from the SQ5....and so it should for the extra dosh.

Availability, price and the fact that Audi dealers are far more numerous than Porsche dealers might well make the SQ5 the better option for some.

We've just offloaded our SQ5 - it's a decent attempt at a do it all car and mrsdonuts loved it. Boot space isn't great (struggled to fit in much more than an average sized pram), the interior is starting to look seriously dated and the new Q5 is on its way. (https://www.audi.co.uk/new-cars/q5/all-new-q5.html). We've now decided against trying to have one car that suits every occasion, but if we were buying now, the RR would be top of the list by a country mile. Macan left us both cold..iffy box and not particularly rapid either..

If you can run to it try a Macan Turbo.

It's a very accomplished everyday car indeed, comfortable, fast, brilliant chassis and drivetrain, practical, well built etc etc.

I bought mine as a stop-gap but really love it and will hold on for a while longer.

Just sold my 63 plate 50,000 mile new shape RRS HSE dynamic for 46k trade.

Tremendous value for money and never let me down. Few warranty issues sorted brilliantly by RR main dealer.

Was told about the new Q5 yesterday while at Audi, did kinda put me off buying the current one TBH, I accept depreciation in a car, but buying one thats out of date the minute you leave the showroom ? And the fact the dealer said there would be zero discount on current model, even though new one is imminent.

Thanks, but would like something a little more economical for some European road trips, if I go down the Macan road, will be the 3L oil burner. Tried the F-Pace yesterday, sad to say, and only my opinion, but did'nt like it, felt the interior lacked quality and an electrical fail light actually came on during test drive.

RR is something I am going to try next, not the SVR though, as my names not Sheikh and I dont own BP, but will definitely try a diesel version. Am a little worried about quality with RR though as I tried the F-Pace yesterday and the interior quality was....erm ? Questionable frown

I kinda agree but new Q5 out very soon, so don't really want to step in something thats literally out of date 5 minutes later.

Thanks to everyone so far, giving me lots of food for thought. Have advertised the R8 so am making moves in the right direction, had a call only last night, so fingers crossed, but as yet, still in no hurry to get the SUV, as mine not sold. If my current car sells, I have a bike to get about on while tyre kicking all these SUV's. I think the shortlist will be Macan, RR and possibly the X5, have given up on the SQ5 idea as new one out very soon. Again, thanks to all, much appreciated.

Looked at Q7 while in Audi...Bloody huge in the flesh and 63 AMG just too thirsty, would like an oil burner next as last five cars have all been sub 20mpg, so fancy a change, and not knowing the names of all the local petrol stations workers would be nice rolleyes

Interesting about the iffy box as I thought the PDK was bomb proof ?? Agree on the interior though, in fact, as mentioned a few times, the whole car is being replaced very soon, so we are definitely avoiding the Q5.

Checked it out, bloody expensive, once specced up, it's circa 80k, which is strong money, and at that wedge, there's alot of competition, it's even an SUV plus a second car for fun too.

Macan, normally soft roader SUV type things arent my thing but I can see why people like them but the Macan is a good looking, well proportioned thing, can totally see how Porsche cant build them fast enough, I know purists hate them but I am not one of those, would love one to be honest, a petrol one just to be sociable on here.
