I just can't, I have a weird sound coming from my neck area.
If I lie down I get up coughing and standing up makes no odds

Hopefully someone with proper medical knowledge will be along soon Dave, but if you are worried don't mess about, get yourself down to A+E.

Anti-biotics sometimes take a while to kick in.

Hope you can get some decent kip...smile

Salbutamol inhaler should get rid of the wheeze enough for you to sleep, I think you can get them from pharmacy with no script, unless you know someone with asthma

Tell me about it! When my sarcoidosis was undiagnosed I didn't have a decent nights sleep for about 6 weeks and as you say it's always as you settle down in bed to go to sleep that the tickle or the wheeze sets in. Ended up trying all sorts, what sort of worked in the end was sleeping sitting up (lots of pillows) and if I did wake up with a coughing fit then to forget about going to sleep, instead get up, have a drink, watch some TV or read, then only when things have settled down and you're dozing off go back to bed. For some reason hot drinks really helped me especially tea despite the caffeine.

Eventually I got prescribed some codeine linctus which really helped, you might be able to get this over the counter? Following that it was getting signed off for six weeks + medication for anxiety (Amitriptyline) which also had the positive side effect of knocking you out if you took it before bed. Once they'd figured out that I didn't have cancer I slept even better wink

Eat some dark chocolate before you go to sleep, the theobromine in it helps with the cough.

Well the kids and wife have gone to Anglesea and I had to summon the strength to take them yesterday - plan is I get better in a few days at home and join them on tuesday but our 3 cats are so spoilt by the mrs I dont get a minute they are so fussy they only defacate in fresh or refreshed litter !!! with 3 cats thats a long job with the scooper. Plus feeding and fur ball searching etc - totally knackered but the anti biotics are working and it feels a bit better.

I had this 2 years ago and passed out coughing breaking 2 ribs - coughing with broken ribs, try that sometime.

It's quite possible to break ribs with coughing too hard!

Sadly the combo of 18 stone and collapsing stone cold was the cause this time .

Re. trying sleep with a chest infection. I found it helps to sleep sitting up or at least propped up by pillows rather than lying down horizontally.
