Enjoyed this month's (arrived in last couple of days) a bit more, can't put my finger on why really, but I like articles like the Clio Williams, Ted Kravitz's column, etc.

Richard Porter seems to be starting to write more and more like Clarkson - got bored before the end of his "dog" column.

ps, where was that Clio pic taken (pg 100)? I know Wales somewhere, but where?

There have been a few articles like the Clio Williams one in the last couple of editions, revisiting older classic performance cars that are well within reach financially. Maybe this is one of the changes made by the new editor ?

I know it has been a criticism recently that EVO is full of articles about cars which the vast majority will never be able to afford, although I should add that I don't share that view - I like reading about what cars I'll likely never be able to afford to own are like to drive. But it is refreshing to read a proper review about a proper drivers car that's well within my reach.

Bungle, the pic is taken from the Claerwen Reservoir dam in the Elan Valley in mid Wales

There's some excellent roads to have a drive round there - been down there many times

That was kind of the context to the original question. Planning a spring-time jaunt to Wales, couple of days driving round, so fancied taking in some sights and some good roads.

Any tips / routes always welcomed. I'm a Wales-driving-virgin wink

Its funny though that they have their "pet favourite" cars. The hot Clios have featured quite a bit over the years, yet they really don't like MX-5s! Any opportunity to bash the current shape model is greatly taken and I think I can recall 2 articles in something like 17 years featuring a drive in older MX-5s (excluding their running report section), which given that the MX5 has been the only cheap, affordable back to basics front engined RWD sports car consistently on sale for the past decade and EVOs mantra is "The thrill of driving" is a bit odd really....!

Look forward to reading this months issue on Weds. Hope its better than last months which for me was a step back again after a brilliant issue the prior month. This is why I don't subscribe any more. Its just too hit and miss for my tastes.

I find 50% of the Fleet section just terrible. I've lost count of the number of nondescript new VAG and estate cars they've got as freebies from manufacturers.

And not forgetting the "more money than sense" upgrades to staff-owned cars.

The only PH reaction to Drive Tribe I've previously noticed seemed to be generally positive until people began to fixate on the fact a Facebook account was required. Quite a few people seemed to view that as a deal breaker. I suppose it's a change from the usual anonymity associated with forums but i was surprised how many people refused to entertain losing this.
Some of us don't have Facebook or Twitter or Instagram etc and have no intention of signing up to them. It's a deal breaker for me.

Now, Harry's Garage, that's one of my favourites on youtube and always look forward to the next episode. Its the decent length reviews, the nerdy details, the fact it usually is based around some trip or adventure.

Drive Tribe is a bit of a mess. The best bit is their YouTube channel - I just watch the videos that end up on there.

But to join DriveTribe you can log in via Facebook, or just set up an anonymous email account and log in with that (same as PH).

So what's the deal braker thing about?

That part I like. All the long termers that consist of "how good is the interior plastic in this VW/Audi/Skoda loaded with every available expensive tech option" I can live without...

The latest issue plopped on my doormat on Friday, it's a really good read, one of the best for a long time. Not missing the old guard tbh, so hopefully the new guys will keep it as good as ever. I know I'm old school, but I much prefer a Mag to reading on a screen. I stare into a screen all week at work, I don't really want to do it at the weekend too. Certainly won't join fartbook or ttter in order to read the in line stuff.

+1 a big step forward over last month's issue, which felt like a raid on articles left lying around from the summer gone (as much as I always enjoy a Catchpole article). I've already cut the cord, but I hope it takes a step forward, I may pick up the odd issue in the future.

Plus a magazine can be left in the bathroom ready for next time - I generally read EVO one poop at a time whilst sitting on the loo. biggrin

I used to get evo religiously but it seemed to go downhill after Harry left, for me. Picked one up in WHSmith the other day and it felt more like a flimsy pamphlet than a copy of evo. Can't help wondering if the bulk of its staff jumped ship before the world of print had fully submerged. Seeing a few people comment on DriveTribe. For me, it feels like a massive corporate machine trying to force itself upon car fans; hitting them from every possible angle. The fact that Murdoch is throwing money at it reminds me of when he bought MySpace. I don't mind the DriveTribe YouTube channel but can't be bothered with the thing itself. I'm not on Facebook, and, although I know it's easy to make a fake account, I can't bring myself to get sucked into it.

Whenever I see Clarkson, Hammond, Catchpole etc asking me to check something out on DriveTribe it reminds me of...
