The latest Twingo GT looks great; manual, mid/rear engine, rear drive all good.
Had a look at the different Twingos that have been mentioned, and not sure I could live with the speedo being in the centre and the rev counter above the steering wheel.
It's the same set up in the old gt (I have one) - you get used to it. Nice having a digital readout for speed although the Mrs knows how quick we're going... tacho is the important one anyway and is in plain view if you need it.

122k miles (105k by me) if you were interested I can probably answer questions on them.

Get a mini one. Then just get it remapped. It's only the throttle not opening fully that causes it to have less power than the cooper.
Re-mapping a car and then still only having the grunt of the cooper is not worth the money.

Surely the money would be better put towards the insurance and, more often than not, infinite extra spec.

It'll have to drive a whole lot better than the normal Twingo to be worthwhile. I don't dislike the Twingo; it's a perfectly good city car. But despite some smart packaging it's not really great or even very special to drive.

i'm going to turn the spoon and ask why are you looking at brand new cars if you can't afford insurance for a hot hatch? are you a new driver? why aren't you looking at cheaper used cars for 1-3k instead of 10k+ vehicles that are going to cost even more in depriciation. if you can't afford something then be sensible and get something more affordable and sedade, build up your NCB and get something nicer when you are able to. not look at getting something for showing off while being skint.

you realise that money blown on insurance is something you'll never get back right? is it really worth spending £xxx extra on a warm hatch when you could get something normal and spend the rest on enjoying life.

When did I say I was buying new? I am looking at what second hand prices are like for some of these cars.

Exactly - and life is too short to worry about spending an extra £300 a year on a car that is more expensive to insure when you enjoy how it looks and drives.

Get a Swift Sport - reliable, good to drive and great value second hand.

Are you familiar with the Swift Attitude? 1.3 but with fancy wheels and a spoiler from the factory.

Failing that get a 1.5 GLX Swift and put some Sport wheels on it. Only 30 bhp down on the Sport and still good fun to drive.

Probably cheaper to insure a Cooper than a remapped One.

Have you run some insurance quotes on hot hatches and the warm equivalent?

There probably won't be that much of a difference between the Fiesta ST and the ST line. I'm 23 and paying only slightly more for my ST as I did for my 1.5 diesel Clio. Running costs aren't too different either. People on the FST owners club forum are claiming about 38-40mpg for the ST Line and 34-38 mpg for the ST.

Modifications will be the killer so I wouldn't bother with buying the lesser car and modifying to match the hot hatch.
