Last night, broke into house and took Touareg R and Golf R while we slept. Prior removed CCTV cameras and security lighting before drilling patio doors!

Golf recovered by police, stinger, but Touareg still out there

Long shot I know but Accrington / Great Harwood area

VA16 ECE - white with black leather

Any info contact Lancs police or pm me

Thanks

Ouch. Screw the cars, it's the sense of invasion that's the bugger.

How did they drill without being heard? Not having a go, but there's so many of these threads, do people leave their keys downstairs or in plain view? I keep all my keys in the bedroom with me and have a floor lifter under the bed (not for intruders, that's just 'where it lives'). Stairs are so creaky nobody is getting close without my hearing them.
If they are willing to go as far as they did in this case then I'd just want them to take the cars. You really going to defend your VWs against a well-prepared gang when you're half asleep at 3am?

What this guy said.

They are insured risks. As much as it sucks to have it stolen, you simply report it as such and get another one (or not). Anyone determined enough to remove CCTV etc probably isn't someone you want to frustrate.

Have to say though that if that happened to me I'd be seriously thinking about moving before replacing cars.

Not being of the "powerfully built" type, if someone's prepared to break into my home I'd rather leave the car keys somewhere easily accessible so they're in and out in the shortest time possible, rather than risking a confrontation when I'm half asleep.

Back to the OP, hope they recover the car soon, or insurance deals with it swiftly.

Main thing is you are ok.

Would a 50k motor not have a tracker fitted? If not, might be on its way to Eastern Europe by now. Normally stolen to orderfrown

Exactly this!
I'd rather they just take my car(s) quietly then risk them threatening my family to get the keys.

I use ear plugs, so probably wouldn't hear them.

Not much use now and a little off topic... I have just installed one of these:

Half a day to install and £150 all in. It sits in the mouth of the driveway as a visual deterrent and nothing can get off the driveway when up. I sleep a little better at night.

unfortunately it's really not at all difficult to jam a tracker and make it useless

If scrotes have the keys to your car then they will have the keys to this too, no?

If they want your cars they will get them and threaten you /inflict injuries to you and your family to get it.

Our keys are left in a very obvious place no need to come upstairs. Cars take them I couldn't care less - come upstairs it's not going to end well.

From knowing people who have had their cars stolen recently, those that have confronted the thieves have discovered that they are not shy of using a bit of nasty violence to get their way.

It's not fool proof granted, but the keys are to the post are in a different place. I think it's more the first thing people see in the noisy gravel driveway and would stop an opportunist as the question would be "what else has the nutter done?", it's not worth it.

Like you say if they want it they will take it and if my family is at risk, they can have it.

Or...

If a car criminal wants your car, they will take it. However that only applies if you brush all car criminals with the same determination/motive brush. In reality the post may actually deter some of the more average gangs who don't want confrontation, but an organised violent gang will take it regardless, so this security post just increases the propensity for them to break in and get violent with you for the post keys. It would be safer to keep these gangs out of your house by not having a post.

Sadly it's a lose lose situation.

Indeed, it's not going to end well for you at all.

I know that lots of people have house alarms, but how many have them configured to come on at night?

Ok, it wont stop people from trying, but it certainly makes a racket if they do open a door and/or start moving about one of the rooms.

Sorry to hear about the intrusion. Not nice. I'd echo the above though, I leave my car keys in my kitchen junk draw. They're not hard to find and if a gang of organised criminals wants my car, I'd rather they took it and didn't come upstairs where my partner and children sleep.

I am not powerfully built, nor a 'lad that likes a fight.' - AT ALL. But if you so willingly surrender your cars, when the insurance pays out and there's a nice new 66 plate replacement on the drive, don't you think they'll see it as an easy £££ to come back and do the same? That's why pensioners get targeted over and over, they're easy targets.

And cutting CCTV and security lights; an oceans eleven heist does not make. I'm sure it was a chav with a drill and a pair of wire cutters. I wouldn't go ARNIE on them, I'd end up in hospital. But if you just surrender your cars without so much as disturbing them, they'll be back. Or their friends will be.
That's not how it typically works. From the MO this is organised crime. They know the police and forensics will have been around, advised on security precautions and locks beefed up accordingly. These guys want in and out, they don't want to be caught and linked to 50 other thefts. They rarely come back in these cases - it's on to the next house.

It has happened to a few people near me. They even left wallets, handbags, mac books etc that were next to the keys - just wanted the car

Not true. Get a proper tracker which uses a multitude of signal mechanisms and its very difficult. Not impossible but difficult and unlikely to be successful unless they are an organised outfit.

This.

If you have the 'Tracker cat 5 Plus' tracker installed (about £700 plus about £200 per year) then there';s a high chance you will get your car back, less so with any other cat 5 tracker. The 'Tracker' cat5 Plus is the only one that works with VHF as well as GPS, so they will continue to work underground or in a container, they cannot be blocked by a jammer. You need to carry a card with you too, so if your car is hijacked and the card is in your pocket, or the car is stolen from home with the keys but not the card then the Tracker call centre will be notified immediately and they will try to contact you to confirm if your car has been stolen. They can remotely disable the car if the Police give the go ahead.
