Separate lanes, you say? Where will the space for these come from?
How about we start be removing all cars parked on the road? That could free up countless miles, literally thousands of miles possibly, would reduce congestion and pollution immeasurably.

Should roads be for movement or storage of vehicles?

Should the state pay for storage of vehicles?

To me the most dangerous roads for cyclists, sorry bicyclists, are narrow rural lanes without footpaths that cyclists could use. We should be spending money widening these roads for all to use safely or laying separate cycle/walkways along side.

I had a run in with a cyclist this is what happened.

Bus lane to My left only enforced during 3.30 to 6.30. Long queue of cars in my lane going in same direction which ends up in two lanes one for straight ahead (previous bus lane) and the lane I'm in to turn right only, controlled by traffic lights.

So as everyone tries to merge into the straight ahead lane when the bus lane finishes traffic builds up. I'm turning right so I have to negotiate these cars by slightly going around them.

Whilst I did this I heard some screaming effing and blinding. The cyclist is shouting what the fking hell are You doing are you blind you fking idiot with lots of head shaking and pointing to the camera on his head shouting aloud my reg number.

I haven't reacted or said anything at this point, I'm turning right and he's blocking me from doing so whilst the lights are green, so I wind my window down and say get out of the way your in the wrong lane.

He shouts back just calm down mate or I'm calling the police! Before riding off still shaking his head.

Not sure why everyone is obsessed with Lycra ?
Nor am I. It seems to be one of those things that shouty PH cyclists bring up premeditatedly, like "road tax" to try and suggest people that disagree with them are always going on about it.

I was replying to CB1965 who was on about Lycra being a bit strange.

So a cyclist was behaving like a knob? I saw a 911 driver behaving like a knob the other day, but I didn't come on here telling the world that all Porsche drivers are aholes.

While I'm happy to support the cause of most cyclists the lycra nonsense is a bit odd though.

I'm a massive F1 fan and if when I drove my Merc at weekend I dressed in a full F1 race suit I am sure people would be laughing their head of yet.......
Yes, because a race suit wouldn't help you drive your merc at all. They are protective gear for a track environment, and massive overkill for the road. Equally, you'd look odd in a helmet.
Whereas cycling clothes are the best design for cycling. Runners wear running gear. Hillwalkers wear walking gear. Climbers wear climbing gear. Where's the "odd" ness?

Disclosure: I do not own any cycling lycra nor a road bike, nor do I even cycle very often. I am just amazed at people's obsession with other people wearing sports gear to do sports in. Bizarre.

This is a thread about cyclists not Porsche drivers

This is an odd story, there appear to be some bits missing. Was he overtaking you while you were in the right turn lane? Where did he come from?

Oh yeah, in that case do feel free to carry on with the sweeping generalisations about cyclists based on the behaviour of one. As you were.

I think the point he is trying to make is that cyclists coming up behind cars with just cm's between them is creating a situation that is just as dangerous to that cyclist. Its a double standard.
Many years ago a friend had a fiat uno, on the top of the boot lid was a small lip, but big enough for a cyclists head to hit at speed whilst wearing a helmet and causing himself serious injury.

Also near me cyclists stopping at traffic lights is a novelty so it goes both ways cyclists (I cycle regularly on the road) and car drivers both should obey the rules a bit more.

Q: Why are cyclists banned from motorways? After all, there's no parked cars for them to fret about?

A: Because riding a bicycle out on a road occupied by cars and trucks is bloody stupid.

Er, it's not just bicycles that aren't allowed on motorways though is it?

Anyway, can you answer my last question about what I need to pay to use the roads before spouting more utter crap in this thread.

He came up from my right so he was going into oncoming traffic although there weren't any cars approaching because their lights were red, he then went from the middle of the right turn lane and carried straight on. I was going crawling speed at the time.

So using your logic it's fine on roads where they're not banned. Motorways are the only roads with a minimum speed limit, all other roads are for the use of everyone.

Presumably, given your pointless aggression and inability to grasp simple facts - you're a cyclist. Am I right?

And by the way, it's YOU who appears to have no answer to the question, "Why aren't cyclists allowed on motorways?". This thread isn't about farm tractors, it's about cyclists. You don't find many tractors thrashing about in City Centres round my way either!

As regards the appropriate cost for cyclists to use the roads my proposal would be £50 a year. That should cover the cost of keeping a number plate database to allow proper enforcement of road traffic laws while making a contribution towards the cost of cycle lanes.

I thought it was a thread about motorists? Motorists getting fined for not driving properly? Everything about cyclists is just deflection from the OP.

Certain slow moving vehicles, but that doesn't appear to be defined.

Mopeds and agricultural vehicles are excluded but without a better definition I would imagine the legislators intended to exclude vehicles incapable of doing more than 30.

Bottom line is you're going to be extremely disappointed hehe
