Separate lanes, you say? Where will the space for these come from?
Where did the space come from for the bus lanes? They haven`t all ways been there
Often by turning dual carriageways into single lane roads, drastically increasing congestion and pollution
I can think of a number of places where roadside parking has the same effect - and thousands of miles of urban roads where there would be space for a segregated cycle lane if all the parked cars were removed - sounds like a plan...
Thats a great idea. So where are we going to put all these cars?

I'm going to hazard a guess that someone, somewhere has already crossed that bridge by introducing double yellow lines on a road where people habitually park.

Does your home have off road parking?

I can't see a problem with that, if you want a car you need somewhere to keep it, on the road is fine as long as the owners are paying more for the privilege of depriving the rest access to the roads we all pay for...

So you're quite happy to suffer the same inconvenience as long as the car owner is paying extra? Regardless that you won't see any of the money or gain any advantage from it as the road access remains unchanged.

Well, I'm not sure it's fine but yes, I do think it should be paid for. (In fact it is being paid for, but not by those reaping the benefit).

I'm aiming the question at those who think we should ban cars from parking on the road. If they can park off road then it''s a classic case of crew you Jack I'm ok. If not, well I'm sure they'd happily give up their cars like they want others to do

I've always had houses with off road parking, but I understand that's not possible for everybody. Yes cars parked on the road isn't ideal and can be annoying, but they have to park somewhere.

I'd say it's a reality for tens of millions of households throughout the UK. The idea that we should ban them from owning cars and cripple out economy for the sake of a handful of cyclists is one of the stupidest things I've read on here outside of NP&E

I agree, it's probably the craziest comment that I've ever read on PH. Huge amounts of people would have to try and change their jobs which would be chaos. Also they would have to sell their car, but who would buy it? Used car values would plummet over night. But I'm OK because I've got a drive.

Maybe this comes back to the OP - if the minority of motorists who this campaign is aimed at learned to be more patient, or more careful, around this handful of cyclists then there would be less need to find room for the cycle paths...

In this thread the demand for segregated lanes came from a poster who wanted cyclists off the road - not from cyclists.

If they were segregated it would still be 'the road', just like pavements are.

Indeed I don't have a 2nd car or caravan or boat as I have nowhere to keep them.

No, the roads are for a wide variety of different forms of transport. Just because you have to pay to take your car on the roads that are paid for from general taxation doesn't give you any more rights to use them.
