What a great opportunity to name whichever owners group you're a part of.
I suppose that is going to happen though, as people tend to stick with a certain marque.

I'm a member on both of the main Mercedes forums in the UK, and enjoy attending as many of the meets as I can manage, even though most of them are miles away from me. Most of the people I've met are sociable and knowledgeable about the cars though, and this goes for any group of people really, there are the odd personality clashes. Having said that, I now have mates from all over the country who share the same obsession as me, so not a bad thing really. smile

I think the best and most genuine owners were from one of the Jaguar forums. I joined when I had my XFR a few years back, and was impressed by their chat and knowledge of the cars. Unfortunately I only met a couple in person as I didn't get on with the car, so went back to Mercedes, though I was chatting to a few of the guys at Duxford earlier in the year, and was made to feel welcome even as a rival marque owner. smile

ClubGTI- yes its a VW group but they are much more into the motorsport and tech side of things, and "stanced" cars with silly tyres are very rare on there. Some brilliant technical knowledge and met some really nice guys at trackdays etc. Wouldn't have been able to keep my old Passat going this long without the help of guys on there, despite it being the "wrong" model (i.e. not a golf).

Retro Rides is good too, very eclectic! smile

As one of the founder members of Club GTI I'm pleased to see it's still appreciated.

For once, MX5 is the answer in a non-ironic way.

I ran across the MX5OC at a regional meet just outside Cambridge. The owners would talk to anyone walking past who showed an interest, whether MX5 owners or not, and If genuinely consider an MX5 for the social side as much as the car itself.

Navara and vx220 group were very friendly and helpful. Had a few issues with my navara, all quickly sorted with their knowledge.

cslregister is by far the worst. Full of oddballs who honestly have nothing else in their lives. Constantly ruining people's chances of selling their cars once they're done by trashing them publicly and via DM. Happened to 2 people I know with nice csls.

Brilliant, knowledgeable.
On the internet, yes. But if you actually go and meet some of these people on the meets and such they don't really make you feel welcome at all and going on drives with them just becomes a bit weird. On top of the fact that most of them are collecting their pensions soon. Not the demographic I expected to have that type of car at all.

VW forums, bad.
Too much of a gap between people spending £1k on a car, £200 on coilovers vs people spending £1250 on coilovers and £13k on a turbo kit.
MK1/MK2 Scirocco and Corrado people are down to earth and friendly. Let's not even go there with MK5 and upwards GTIs, jesus wept.

ClubGTI is a good one, but it's way too quiet and a bit too dry for me.

OMOC?

I think I know what you mean.

My own experience outside PH has been mostly with Vauxhall and that's been working fine for me so far but there are so many factions. Unfortunately it is quite easy to find the "wrong" kind of crowd within anything, and the boyos in their Corsas dressed up as VXRs and so forth, revving the nuts out of their engines at all hours, are a far cry from the old boys in their Crestas and Victors, or Autobahnstormers types.

Went to a BMW show a few years ago when I had my 6 series, they were pretty friendly

MG clubs, by miles.
Handily timed comment as l just acquired one. Any recommendations on which club is best/most active?
They're all good really. I preferred the more beardy MGCC as I'm a bit of an MG geek but others prefer the MGOC, all very active. Facebook groups & forums too.
yes Another vote for MG - by far the most down to earth and the least cliquey that I've experienced. A special mention should go to the Lotus 7 Club too - pretty friendly and they're one of the most active clubs I've ever been a member of.

I guess any scene where people are smiling.

Oh, car club. I think the Mercedes one were pretty friendly. Doesn't matter whether you have an SL65 AMG or a £900 C180 from the 1990s.

Some Porsche people dinner jacket mob think they are special.
I disagree.

Generally I find most VW owners are not bad people, but they are very cliquey and unless you fit into their clique they will look down on you.

The amount of people I see in Mk1 and Mk2 golf's who don't even acknowledge a nod or wave because "it's classikh car brooo" is laughable. The type of people whom you KNOW have seen you but they want to act cool and pretend they haven't.

Not to say all are like that, I have found some of my closest friends through VW's and VAG shows but I feel the cars are what brought us together rather than what keep us together. I've been in the VAG scene for about 7 years now... I know it fairly well. The decline in the last 4 or 5 years is quite sad.

The problem is a lot of people don't like being told "you're wrong" whether it's justified or not so when you see something as a clued up member of an enthusiast group (of any type of car or activity) you come across as a cock when you point out that someone is being stupid/dangerous and as such get branded as a tw@ and that then gets branded as being unfriendly!

I am on a group on FB called TFSI tuning that is pretty friendly to be fair.

Civic Type R owners used to be good until more and more spanners started buying them.
206 owners was a forum full of genuine oddballs
Scoobynet is pretty st if you're seeking advice, pretty good for selling stuff though.
VXR owners was very clicky, went to one dyno day they did and didn't bother with anything else, talk about being an outsider...
S2000 OC is a helpful forum, likewise with the DC5 owners
Haven't bothered with the Meganesport or RS Megane forums but their fb pages seem to have a lot of friendly members on there

And PH is just full of tts obviously hehe
