RE: New Mercedes-AMG E63 announced
Discussion
This promises to be everything AMG mercs should be and has enough wild power and crazy features to make the diesel and lesser petrol versions look functionally redundant in comparison. I am still waiting to see the Panamera shooting brake...but the e63 estate is currently top of my cars I want that almost actually exist list.

Pedant mode....
It has got 612hp (metric horsepower)
This equates to 603bhp (brake horsepower)
What's "metric horsepower"? Do you mean 612ps (Pferdestärke)? It has got 612hp (metric horsepower)
This equates to 603bhp (brake horsepower)
The "west coast stload standard" however, was sometimes held as low as a ton and a half. While in the mid-west, the standard stload could be as little as five hundred pounds. Really the only industry to keep a straight stload was the drug running trade. Those guys never deviated from the 2.7 ton benchmark, God bless 'em!
and not to be confused with assload which is a much smaller quantity
I would have badged this new model E63 S and SL

RS6 and M5 won't be able to hold a candle to this, all the dynamic benefits of RWD combined with the sure-footedness of 4WD when you want? That sound helps too..as does the fact that it looks bloody amazing
Next M5 is going to be 4WD 20/80 RWD biased, 600hp+ and looking lighter! The M5 will be more than fine HighwayStar said:

The M5 will be more than fine In this market segment it seems everyone is converging on 4WD, 600bhp+ and very expensive (obviously) so I imagine which you go for will be mostly down to which one you subjectively prefer rather than which is objectively the 'better' car.

See this is why I like AMG over the M / RS options.
With the M cars, there's this incredibly dull pretense that it's a finely honed driving machine for the incredibly discerning driver that every golfer is where track times are so important and it's all about finesse and poise.
All born out of your extensive experience with them no doubt, what a load of rubbish.... Whilst I appreciate the tech, I wonder how many owners have enough brave pills to disable esp and deploy over 600hp on the road.
It's great marketing to have the best of both worlds, but apart from motoring journalists showing us how well it drifts on track I can imagine most owners never using it.
It also looks like it's on stilts in the first photo, the headlights don't look like they're fitted correctly (but perhaps that's just my eyesight or the quality of the photo), and that mahoosive screen on the dash whilst better than the stick on tablet doesn't look great imo .
Personally I like the sound of the M5 4wd 20/80 split better.

Being able to switch off the AWD is more mentaller than a 20/80 split therefore the AMG wins. It's great marketing to have the best of both worlds, but apart from motoring journalists showing us how well it drifts on track I can imagine most owners never using it.

Why no coupe?
Probably thought this one was ugly enough without having a 2-door version And Merc has confirmed there'll be a '43 and '63 AMG version.
