See this is why I like AMG over the M / RS options.

With the M cars, there's this incredibly dull pretense that it's a finely honed driving machine for the incredibly discerning driver that every golfer is where track times are so important and it's all about finesse and poise.

With RS cars, it's about all weather point and squirt stability and ensuring you can tailgate anything in any conditions at any speed with absolutely no effort whatsoever.

With AMG, it's about putting a glorious sounding V8 in it and bonfiring the rear tyres, because that's fun. There can be no justification whatsoever as to why this rear wheel drive mode exists, other than for smoke based amusement. Fantastic. Is Tobias Moers actually Australian?
Given the E Class has been available in 4WD in other markets for a while now, i think you are perhaps over praising AMG. At the end of the day, they couldn't make the numbers work for a RHD 4WD car rather than AMG being a bunch of absolute lads who insist on RWD 'cos you can drift...

Fair play though, they've thought of a USP (gimmick?!) with the switchable 2WD/4WD, but surely the realisisation is 600bhp doesn't work as an every day car with 2WD. I remember BMW released a european only 550x (or something like that) in 4WD only for the same reason - too much torque for Joe Bloggs to deal with.
Decent traction control calibration deals with the power, Joe Bloggs has nothing to worry about.
far better to be able to use all of it than have some electronic nanny kill the power because the rear wheels cant take it in the wet

On reflection i do wonder if merc have done this because the RS6 has become a halo daily driver car for many of the youtubers getting a huge amount of coverage, even shmee used one for the gumball
I think it is better to not have complete traction. I look forward to daily drives on wet roads in a rwd car, though I fully understand the appeal of awd traction.

From what I hear from friends that own the A45 and another that has the Focus RS, the RS is apparently a much more driver focused car, whereas the AMG is the one that feels softer.
it comes down to if you want a stick or twin clutch, i rejected the focus instantly as i do not want a manual daily driver

if it came with paddles i would have bought it instantly

there in lies the beauty in this merc, its 4wd for daily chores or when your tired, but if you want to be a thug / have some fun you can turn it off sperm

I couldn't have the Merc, hate that interior (irony as I like the Ford) if I was spending the 50K it would be going to BMW

Totally love this. But have a weak spot for the W204 C63, can't beat that mean aggressive look and in addition, that's a N/A 6.2 and sounds so good.

Still my favourite. I think it'll remain my favourite for a while.

No mention of any weight (reduction)?
Thought that was quite relevant?
2000kg+ it perhaps doesn't matter all that much...
New E Class is over 100 kg lighter than the old E Class. I'm not sure how much the 4Matic drivetrain weighs, but probably 30 or so kgs lighter than the old rwd model?

Has someone been watching Fast and Furious before deciding on the interior illumination?

There will also be a number of new gadgets MB has slapped on this model which will soon claw back that extra 100kg.

There's a number of new gadgets on the new E Class over the old model and it's still 100 kg lighter

Perhaps, quoted weights at launch are always without any optional gadgets, especially the big german specimens usually easily gain another 200kg after a shopping spree in the options list... That is how a 'basic' non-S version ends up as quick and better handling than the has it all versions, if anybody cares...
Of the kind, a basic C63 estate, debadged, with the coupe rear axle would be my pick...

Great car, but am I the only one that thinks the C class looks like it's melting? A bit droopy?
No, its horrible in saloon and coupe form.
Each to their own but I think they both look great. I actually prefer the rear bumper treatment to the slightly dull rear end of to the new E63.

A friend of a friend has one and I saw it recently - first I'd seen in the flesh looked good and far better than the pics show however my friend has a dirty C63 6.2v8 mapped to black edition they had a rev out new car started it off sounded good but then I was surprised at how filthy and leagues better the 6.2v8 sounded.

I'm just can't see who would buy this.
Somebody who wants a super car fast, luxurious, saloon car with accessible performance?
Well obviously....but don't the S Class, CLS AMG options do all that already?
Why spend big money on the middle segment souped up saloon?

Nice car just a bit pointless given the rest of the AMG range seems to cover all the same bases.

I agree with the previous poster about the drift mode. I mean, really? Why call it that?

You beat me to it. I know I couldn't drive any one of the '3' to even within 7/10ths.they are all exquisite. I'd wager hardly any give a toss about track times. For me it's more about the aesthetics and noise. They will all drive well above my ability so less fussed with diminishing returns on times. It's not a scalpel is it. It's a sledge hammer. I like. My wife won't
