RE: Mercedes-Benz X-Class concept
Discussion
I have one problem with this vehicle; it's not distinctly Mercedes enough. To be honest when i first saw the image on FB my immediate thought was: "It looks more like an Audi".
Adding the corporate face only solidifies this IMO.

That would be the most pointless Merc ever. Huge engine, with weight of probably 2.5 to 3 tonnes struggling to get to 60 in decent time or do more than 15 mpg. Sound like a dream come true :P And let's not forget how handy and agile this'll be on British roads and in towns.
But aside from that, I can see Merc decided there are still niches none of their innumerable models fill. As if their range wasn't complicated enough as it is.

Though you are technically right, the 6 wheeler wasn't made in any real numbers and this pickup thing would be.
Dependant on price the X Class could be a good buy, if it's priced roughly the same as an Amarok at around 26k then I see no reason why it won't sell well, however I hear those Merc badges cost a fortune to make.Alan_I_W said:

Bearing in mind Merc already buy diesel engines in from Renault, what do you think?
Can you explain your animosity to this project? Is it Merc in general you don't like? Badge engineering?Honestly, very little is know other that it will share a platform with an accomplished staple in the market.
So far, Merc themselves have done very little badge engineering as far as I know (only one that springs to mind is the Smart).
And looking at the smart, they did some small tweaks and made it more upmarket with the possibility of adding more in options (panoramic roof?), with a normal rise in price as far as I can see.
I'm not a fan of badge engineering myself, but I just don't buy an Audi. I don't get offended by their existence.

Can you explain your animosity to this project? It's a joint venture. The next Navara will be available with a choice of badges - Nissan, Renault or Merc. It's that simple. There may be engine differences, or there may not be. There may be trim differences, or there may not be.

Perhaps you missed that this is Merc Commercials. So Sprinter I/LT, Sprinter II/Crafter, Citan/Kangoo.Then, of course, there's the Renault diesels across the smaller cars. And the Nissan/Merc joint factory in Mexico.
