"I know they hold most of the cards, but there is NO need for this toys out the pram approach. At no point have you been unreasonable or expected anything for nothing. If I were you I'd let them have the car back as long as they don't hit you too hard on the return of any funds you may have sunk in.
laugh

Edit to add, the thread that keeps on giving:

forum poster said:
"Depending on whether or not I can take legal action over the demand to pay off the remaining balance in full (Asked to have this confirmed in wriing for Friday), I would be well within my rights to take this to the media?"
forum poster said:
"Studying my pre-contract info for the car does state that alterations are not permitted, and car has to be in fully saleable condition. They may have me there then, but I will most likely challenge this."
And saving the best for last;

"I think in the end after all this hassle rcs2k4 should be compensated with a fixed vehicle, mods intact and an apology."

That thread is genius, what a load of plonkers. Love it when the SEAT guy turns up to start doling out the truth.

That thread is funny, however I think it's a different situation (haven't read it all). It's not a lease car, I believe it was bought on finance - ie the car had his name on the V5.

Also, here is the list of his mods he carried out (quite extensive):

Milltek 100 Cell Sports Cat w/3" downpipe
Milltek non-res exhaust from the cat back
Forge DV Spacer
Forge Pressure Related DV
Carbonio CAI and Pannel Filter
Forge Twin Intercooler (Almost new!) with all hoses and fittings

FWIW I toyed with one of these TDI tuning boxes for my leased Alltrack, they seem removable and well reviewed, and would have second hand value for when the lease was up.

But in the end, the car is a 190bhp diesel tractor, does it really matter to me if it were a 220bhp diesel tractor and I could shave 0.5 seconds off the traffic light GP? The answer to that is no.

If you remap it then

1. If it breaks they warranty won't be any use (expect a bill for £10k)
2. When they find out (which they will) they will expect you to buy the car for full market valeu or they will sue you for their losses

An R is plenty quick enough when stock.

Otherwise just buy a car you can afford, you plank.
Simply this!

It's not just the warranty voided, most leasing companies will be able to charge you full market value as the car will have lost it's warranty and be hugely devalued because of this.

I'm sure in my lease terms I read something about modifying and market value.

Well you're a bit of a c**t. Simple.
This.

Why would you want to remap a car that doesn't belong to you anyway.

rofl
Why do it full stop unless you plan to keep the car forever? At some point down the road the car won't belong to you, it doesn't matter if it's leased, financed or bought with cash. The OP has obviously read his lease agreement, he knows he shouldn't. If he wants to he can, it's only him who will pay the price if he gets caught or something goes wrong, there is a risk in doing so, it just depends if the OP thinks it is worthwhile.

The same would apply really to any car with a warranty, you shouldn't remap it, who cares because if you are going to do then you will. When I bought my Fiesta ST new in 2014 it was mapped and modify that would have voided the warranty when it was less than 6 months old, who cares as it was a risk I was willing to take, I only kept it for 13 months anyway.

So OP, if you really want to remap it, then do it, as long as you know the risks and potential consequences then it doesn't really matter what anyone else thinks. smile

I assume it's this car OP's talking about chipping:

Ordered my GTi yesterday

5 Door White Nav with DSG
£2400 down
23 x £150

10k Mileage
24 month lease
So it's not a Golf R.

Not sure why I was thinking it was an R, actually.

Edited to remove company name.
