Plenty of people with a drive way/garage live within 20-30 miles of a town centre, even in the South east.
What about outside of the South East? You'd be amazed how many people live "in the sticks".
An early Nissan Leaf wouldn't get from my house to Bristol and back again on a dark and rainy winter night with lights, heating, wipers, etc. on a single charge.

I live in the suburbs of London about 15 miles from the very centre of the city according to google maps. Every single house on my street has a driveway and\or garage and I'd estimate at least 50% of the houses within the surrounding 5 mile radius do too. Sometimes I doubt people have been to the big bad scary city at all the way they talk about it. It's not all apartment blocks, terraced houses and people living on top of each other with nowhere to park.

The relatively small central areas where it appears most people who live outside of London visit and get there wild ideas about what London is like isn't representative of the majority of London at all.

Just to repeat something posted before. I live in the sticks, the nearest small town is within walking distance, and a larger one is about 6 miles away down the canal towpath as shortest route.

We need two vehicles, the runaround, which we have had from new, is now nearly 15 years old, and near 50k miles. In all that time it's been out of Worcestershire only 10 times. Of those ten journeys, six could have been accomplished on a single Leaf charge, 3 could have been a success with a swift top up at the destination or en route, so only one would have been an utter pita in a current spec EV,or even an old spec Leaf.

But please don't let the knockers use the example of homes without off street parking as valid for the entire nation.

A tremendously detailed and thorough examination of the legal treatment of all this - with lots of comparison between how VW is dealing with the legalities of this in the US vs. Europe. And a call for the press to realise how they are being managed in Europe.

Long, detailed, worth watching:

A brilliant insight at 25 minutes in. Someone should make a movie out of this...

And check out 37 minutes for some fun!!!
