Great write up OP-
The 993 is indeed a beautiful shape and in my opinion the bog standard Carrera is the nicest shape-
the turbo loses the nice curve down the rear with that big spoiler.......

The 993 is the one car I miss and would like to go back to - just a shame they're silly money now (as a buyer, obviously!). Lovely things.

Thank you for the kind comments. I attach a pic of the interior. There's not a lot of love for red interiors on PH but I've grown fond of it. The cars ooze character from start up. Wouldn't want to be without it now.
Top car and a well written piece. That interior is about as good as red interiors will ever get. I do like the 964 and 993 interiors though, they're refreshingly basic.

Great write up, fellow 993 C4 owner here. Love your red interior, so much more interesting than the normal dull grey, like mine.

I bought mine in January 2010 - advertised on here as well.

I love using it and couldn't agree more with the OP

First pic is as now (not monochrome paint :-), second pic as bought, with TurboS front spoiler and Turbo rear spoiler. It's back to standard now.

Lovely write up, enjoyed that smile

How I miss my 993! Traded it for £20K against another piece of Pork. Oh the benefit of hindsight!

I was at OPC Chester the other week and there was a nice silver 993 parked next to a 991. Amazing how much smaller the car was, but it's still my favourite.

993 vs 991

The 993 still looks the business .....it's dated extremely well.

991 looks absolutely awful next to the pretty 993.

Nice write up. I've owned 3 993s (had two at the same time at one point!) so fair to say I am a fan.
I don't think it is the best looking air cooled 911 (i.e. a real 911 - nothing wrong with the later
cars - GT3 are wonderful - but they are just not 911s to me). However it is still good looking and mixes the feel and sound of the early cars with enough civility that it could easily be used every day and long journeys are a pleasure, not a pain.

For me C2 with standard wheels (no more than 17 inch) is the perfect dynamic package as it has the right balance of power and grip.

Last 993 I bought in 2012 was truly a time warp car. Had only done around 25k miles and looked and drove like new. But when I moved back to the UK in 2014 I struggled a bit to sell it. Also sold my 355 for peanuts. In hindsight I could have brought them both back and even with the cost of doing so would have been quids in.

Well written and a good read.

Epitamy of 911 "cool" for me, the newer ones look soulless and over complicated in comparison.

If I had one there is no way I'd consider a more modern 911 in comparison, it would be a keeper.

I don't think I could ever sell my C2. Especially now that I have spent so much time getting it just the way I want it. The list of mods includes:
Full retrim
RS carpet set
RS door cards
Solid gear linkage arm
RS shirt shifter
RS steering wheel
RS engine mounts
Bilstein PSS10 suspension
LSD
Calliper rebuild
Bergvill fx lighting
....
All I can do next is a 3.8 rebuild and fit an RS clutch and single mass flywheel. For me one of the great things about these cars is when things give up, it is easy to mod in line with the upgrades Porsche did at the factory.

Haha, actually I think they should be black on a C4. But I prefer red.

I think silver is correct for a C4. Black was the C2, red for Turbo, RS, C2S and C4S and yellow for Turbo S?

Superb write up. Again the best looking Porsche since the 70's widowmaker. I would have one vs the newest ones any day.
