Just an idle thought. Is this anything to do with the Parmalat bankruptcy?

Well...a auction update, sat in the auction for hours today and just could not belive the prices paid for stuff everything went for really really stupid prices. The estimate for the viper was between 15 to 20 euros....it sold for 215K! There was a cocacola sign estimated at around 2k that went for 21K!
Even old push bikes went for really stupid stupid money.frown

I know the that in the states, collecting Coca-Cola merchandise is a big thing. Much as I hate to admit it but having watched some of Storage Wars/Hunters programmes, they always secure big profits on Coke stuff.

Thanks for letting us know what's happening. If you can keep us informed about the prices the interesting stuff goes for. thumbup

But these were worth £100k not long ago...£650k?????
It's not exactly surprising.

A beautiful, well thought of Ferrari is always going to spike in value when there's a bubble.

Absolutely one of the most well resolved designs ever penned I think, it's pretty and it's neat.

OK here's another instance..... esso petrol station sign,
There was a large sign in the auction which went for 13k euros. Estimated to go for 500 and 750 euros.

In the next Hall was a used garage sign stall. They had the exact same size esso sign for sale at 2000 euros.

Absolute nuts.
Old Mercedes 300 sl went for 80k all we could think is that it must have even a mafia car and the drugs were still hidden in the boot!

Joe macari is also here at our hotel and has or is attempting tof buy stuff but many of us sitting in the auction room were all looking at each other in total disbelief. People here from all over Europe and we can't belive the stupid prices. Nothing has sold under estimate.

was bidding yesterday and will be over weekend - got sort of closeish on 911 rally car and 75% of the way to the 131 Abarth Group 4 - but bottled - but then for a car you have not heard/don't know if it will run etc - i was outside comfort zone. Had a someone at the auction looking at stuff for me and some mates - we were interested in the 911 project cars - prices reached were quite amazing and did not necessarily have a correlation with financial viability. But then looking at it the other way - we have all pissed away money on cars we simply want/love and do not have to apply rationality to what we do with our money.

As i understand it - RM beat off competition to win the right to auction this little lot by more or less guaranteeing a return to guardia di finanza of XXm euros - their strategy of no reserve and comically low reserves engendered serious interest and attracted a huge number of bidders - and registering was not a simple process! Additionally on thursday night bidders were notified that a number of items were "under seizure" which basically means that you pay on monday and then RM deal with administrators/receivers which will be a 10 day process - during which time your lot is stored at the venue at no charge - so you then have to adjust transport logistics to suit. It will cost approx £1500 to bring a car back.

RM's gamble paid off and it might be a gamechanger - people are bored of comically high reserves and don't bother registering - apart from the same old trade players. When you get "mr private man" to come and participate - you get end user prices and if you have gone to the trouble of registering - organising people to look at stuff - you are more or less compelled to bid and join in - i hope i don't make any rash decisions and get caught up in this - today or tomorrow. Talking of irrational purchases - as i type this the idea of weighing in for this Class 1 Lambo V12 powered boat and making a serious entrance at Cowes next summer - was VERY hard to resist. A guy has just given 100k euro hammer - probably £110k all in for this bad boy - a couple of spare engines are for sale later - imagine what it would cost to build new and then if you have ever heard an offshore powerboat with a v12 at full chat - it starts making sense. Also probably a bit more or exciting than a wked out 911 moneypit project - and that's coming from a card carrying aircooled freak!

I was there yesterday and it was a great event and I managed to park my posterior in some really lovely cars. You have to feel for the guy who built up this collection. He obviously must have made more than a few mistakes along the way but he must have been a true petrol head at heart and if I had an obscene amount of [legitimate] cash, I would have been tempted to purchase the entire collection (and the exhibition hall that it was contained in!) and would have kept it all intact. I think that you are right in that the low estimates brought in a bunch of bidders who wouldn't ordinarily have bothered to register and then in the heat of the auction, there were few real bargains and quite a few folk may have over paid. Not a high profile lot but someone paid €12k plus commission for a '98 2.5L Boxster which was far from a pristine example and probably worth a third of that.

W124 300E? It was a 6.0 DOHC AMG Hammer, one of possibly two manuals, with a big spec.

Estimates were totally unrealistic, far too low...RM have done their job well.

What taken €100 off people just to register, then see the "estimates" to be the stuff of fantasy?!

Fatboy18, can you check what lot 690 sold for? Thanks

I run the only Classic Offshore Powerboat Rally in the UK and a CUV with Lamborghini engines would be very welcome. Dry Martini could be bought for less than that though....

My late uncle owned A'Speranziella & restored her in 80's - my first exposure to Lambo marine V12's was being in Cowes Marina tied up just before start and listening to Achilli Motors contemporary racer with twin engines being warmed up on open pipes...pure opera! Have a black and white Beken's photo of Dry Martini somewhere - mentioning the boat caused me to look at some cool youtube footage! Really not in the market for an offshore powerboat and based on Milan prices - not for Porsche 911 projects or a March 792 BMW either! - but without derailing thread - what is approx ask for DM?

In the late 80's cougar built a cat with 4 Lamborghini V12's, 5 valves per cylinder I think, I recall it doing 140mpg on Southampton Water.

A'Speranziella is now on Isle of Wight and heading for another rebuild. She's in good hands.

Dry Martini is I think asking around £60k, I understand engines are due a rebuild.
