45th President of the United States, Donald Trump.
Discussion
Part of me wanted Trump to win purely to enjoy the schadenfreude of reading The Guardian et al whining about it.
But then I realised, like Brexit, that a thumb in the eye of "the system" is not much fun when you still have to live under it the next morning, seeing the cost of everything rise precipitously etc.
We're on the edge of someone with zero politicial experience beating someone with 30+ years public service. That seems incredible to me, yet post Brexit - it's not.
I fear that, like Brexit, people have voted with the belief that they are somehow upsetting the status quo, when in reality the change democracy gives us is still limited, and we still have to live under it. Trump will serve big money just the same as any other candidate would.
Perhaps democracy isn't the best idea after all.

Personally I wanted him to win all along.
Chabgevis needed the West is in decline we need to do things differently.
Oh and didn't Trump correct Obama (Obama UK is back of the queue for a trade wall) to (Uk will be top of the list my friends of vet the pond).
Those foolish UK MPs who said some very deraogatory things about him are regretting it now. Best to sit quiet and wait for the result

Do you imagine any of that stuff will actually come to pass though? If I had a pound for every time a politician made a promise that they went back on later...
Trump has zero political experience, and as far as I can make out zero actual coherent policies. Do you really see him as the most competent person for the job?

WTF? Don't you realise that Trump and Brexit votes are people saying hey are fed up with the existing, skewed, corrupt, elitist controlled version of Democracy? You want to take any vestige of democracy away because you don't like the answers???'People' are finding some sort of voice. The establishment don't like it 'up em'.

Nope, but equally I didn't like the idea of Clinton in the job. Trump gets slated in lots of ways but I doubt anyone can argue that he's dumb. He picked a campaign appealing to mass market, said the things to stir them up and they came out and voted for him. Anyone else could do the same, but they didn't. He's clearly a bright bloke, or has bright advisors around him. I'd guess the first thing he does is sort out a team of experts to take the tough decisions and he'll just act as figurehead. A noisy figurehead, but that'll be about it. I doubt we'll see a "Hadrian's Wall" across Mexico......

Exactly. Just wait for the hysterical whining; they might even ask for a second vote because people were 'misled' and didn't understand the first one.
The U-turn thread has already begun!http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
Remarkable, how does a man like Trump become the most powerful person on earth.
Hillary should be put on suicide watch - how on earth could she not even beat Trump. She had more money, the support of the current President, every single living past President, the media, celebrity support, Wall Street etc and still couldn't win.

EFA. And on the other hand, Trump has spent much more time in roles vaguely approximating to a proper job.Durzel said:

The fact that this reaction is likely to be prevalent bothers me even more than the prospect of a Trump presidency. jshell said:

Yeah, but what has changed about the "existing, skewed, corrupt, elitist controlled version of democracy" post-Brexit? Do you feel like you have more of a say now? We aren't even going to be involved in the Brexit negotiations - it's the same politicians whom people thought they were sticking it to that are.'People' are finding some sort of voice. Trump prevailed due to dog whistle rhetoric, and millions of people swallowed it wholesale. The fact he had no political experience at all doesn't even matter.
Pardon me if I'd rather the country was run by people that were actually qualified to do the job, rather than the person who makes the most noise?
(ps the democracy being a bad idea was a joke, sorry it went over your head)
