So, a few months ago arranged to go to a local Ferrari owner’s club meet. Made sure TR was detailed and gleaming beforehand biggrin Awoke to a lovely Sunny Sunday, pulled on some Sunday togs (more about these later), uncovered car and started (entails opening bonnet, leaning in over battery compartment and disconnecting trickle charger - then starting). Pulled car out of garage and left running on the drive to get some oil around the big boxer before the off. A few later put some stuff in the car and was walking around the front to close the bonnet down and then…

Never mind the exploding battery spraying deadly corrosive acid everywhere, what are you planning to do about those dandelions?

Happened to me whilst sitting on my newly purchased gas operated forklift. The battery sat just below the seat - I felt as though I'd been smacked on the arse with a fully swung cricket bat!

Explosion was like a shotgun blast. Luckily the bonnet was unlatched so the force blew outwards lifting it up. Battery parts (hard, jagged material) went as far as across the road. Said PH-er was covered in acid so ran inside and doused with cold water three times. Got changed. Took 4 hours to carefully clean and drain battery compartment. Amazingly no damage just some trim needed glueing down. Most amazing thing though was that my noggin wasn't in the battery compartment yikes

All clean...

I would guess it was a hydrogen buildup that reached a dangerous stociatric level and found a spark.
