Yeah because you don't see your plate is dirty when you go out to the car in the morning do you. Clean it before you leave.
I'm fine with it filthy thanks. A week of early starts, late finishes. The last thing I'm concerned about is some over zealous copper.
It takes less than 5 seconds to rub a plate down with an old rag. Do it whilst your car is warming up before setting off.
I'm up at 6 and leave by 6:45. I get home anywhere from 6-8. Every week. It really isn't difficult to give it a once over.
Alternatively you could sit at the side of the road on your commute either being ticketed or forced to clean it by the BIB and be late for work.

Good for you, and great dramatisation there. It takes less than 5 seconds to rub a plate down with an old rag. Do it whilst your car is warming up before setting off.

It hasn't happened in 30 years of driving so i'll carry on just hoping to avoid grumpy coppers, killers with filthy plates...etc

I'm sure if the Police stopped everyone who had dirty rear plates this time of year they wouldn't have time to do anything else.
Some shapes of car with flat rears particularly can get totally blathered easily within 100 miles of setting off. That said it really isn't hard to run a tissue or rag across the rear lights and numberplate every now and again. I'd be more worried the rear lights are completely covered than the plate though.

My poor long suffering wife will tolerate pretty much all my unfathomable car geekery but even she can't believe that I'm spending my evening on the internet staring at stranger's cars that haven't been washed... This she thinks is even more weird that gawping at cars with arches that are wider than normal - which is what I was doing last night.

Keep up the good work everyone!
