I'm in the process of looking for a small car at the moment 13k budget.

With a bit of haggling I can basically get a brand new swift. Ahh what to do !
I picked up a 16 plate 5-door Swift Sport for just £10.7K It was first registered in June 2016 and only had 1,105 miles on the clock - so basically brand new! Have good look around - if you're prepared to travel there are some fantastic nearly new bargains out there. Oh, and I LOVE this little car. Although it's a big power drop from my JDM Spec C Impreza, it manages to put a smile on my face, and I don't have to risk losing my licence to do it smile
Jeez that is an absolute bargain at that price

I paid £9999 for a 16 plate, blue 3 door with 2000 miles a couple of months ago. Brilliant little fun car. Boot is very small though.

Chap, I will make the offer again, you are welcome to have my S2 106 Rallye for the day to do a comparison, just sort out some insurance and put some petrol in it!
Thanks! That's very generous, I'd love to. Where are you based? It will probably be something for next year now given the weather probably won't be ideally suited right now.

Cheers,

Matt
This needs to happen IMO. The Swift is a great little car, alas the Fiesta ST outguns it for a small additional outlay these days, but it's still a brilliant little motor.

Is it a small outlay though? A good 4 grand more?

DtD reckon £13k for a 3rd Swift Sport and £14.6k for a Fiesta ST-2.

Personally, I reckon I'd spend the extra ~£1600 and get the ST.

DTD = drive the deal, a broker website.

Ford themselves are usually pretty good in terms of discounts, I doubt there would be four grand in it when all is said and done in terms of negotiations.

Both figures are from a broker called Drive The Deal, presumably similar figures are available from other brokers. I'd say that the list of a car isn't really that important to a savvy private buyer, all that matters is how much you actually have to pay after discount.

In this case a Fiesta ST-2 is available for £1600 more than a Swift Sport. If you're willing to drop to an ST-1 (the entry level ST), that price difference falls to just £800.

I have owned a 09 sport with 23500 miles for 5k 2.5 years now, put just over 20k on it in that time and to date it has cost me a new battery plus usual servicing and tyres.
Looking on autotrader I see you can get 08/09 cars with under 50k for around 3.5k.
Bit of a bargain for something reliable, easy to live with and fun.

Just check the rear calibers (they can stick) and idealy I personaly found the 195/45,17 tyres ride slightly better than the 205/40,17 that people can put on them.

They do seem to suffer with some pretty heavy depreciation compared to the Fiesta ST, which as you say does make the Swift a bargain second hand.

A 2013 Fiesta ST seems to be £9-10k, whereas a 2013 Swift Sport seems to be £6-7k. So if you're buying new from a broker and selling at 3 years old, you lose less in depreciation on the more expensive car...

The Swift Sport appears to be a car best suited to letting some other kind soul have the pleasure of being the first owner.

Sorry to interrupt guys the reason I wanted a swift is simple jap and petrol no turbo no funny electrics etc. I'm expecting it to last a far few year at not much cost, not sure I can say the same about all the low cubic turbo lumps in yrs to come.

Yeah it's a bit slower but N/A is a lot of fun

Diesel I had every intention of buying a 10 plate civic type r drove about 5 in total but day to day this just made so much sense.

Since purchasing I have found loads of tuning parts can be had if you wish.

I'll let you know my progress, I intend to keep stock until out of warranty out (well most parts) then have a play.

Does the swift feel loads slower than the civic?

If i got one id want to somehow make it look a bit more fierce, and improve the engine note with an induction kit and a good backbox.

Hum no not loads but that's probs because it's a small car so the sense of speed is more than say a well insulated Audi.

It clearly is a slower car, I looked at the fn2 civics, almost all had slight bubbling between windscreen and top of roof, the rubber seal rubs and causes rot. Nothing major but I was looking at spending say 9 grand on one and I'm not having that, also very few have nav cruise, Bluetooth etc. The swift has all that and you can have reversing sensors fitted if you want.

They do look nice with a bit of a lower and a different exhaust, I'd just be concerned about turning it into a chav car rather than a small fun slight power superminis which is what it is.

Reading people's reviews, I'm expecting 40 mpg on a long run, something I don't think you'd get with the civic, and was almost what I got from my 1.9tdi A3 real world.

Another contender for me was the ds3 however the loan Citroen I have has already had some issues whilst I've Been using it, put me off TBH.
