I'd say that XJR is worth a look if you want one. I think it looks and reads fairly well but I'd have to change the wheels if it was mine
I have a real guilty pleasure thing going on with dark wheels. paperbag

For a 4h job (if it even needs doing, lots of them have already been done) I wouldn't turn down a 308.

I should have put it, but i thought it was pretty obvious that i meant unless you don't mind paying for the work yourself...

Nothing against the colour (my CL has darker wheels by the previous owner), I just think that style of wheel has never suited the XJR/308

Congrats and as 0a says, post pics.

I'll have better/more pictures once i've made it 'mine' (wash, polish, hoover etc).
Will probably lose the tints and rear wiper, too.

Nice low mileage but;

"rust bubbles around both front wheel arches. Both rear arches have signs of previous repairs and rust bubbles are present. There are very tiny rust spots/blisters on most panels but no major corrosion issues. "

Does not sound good. If it it is crusty its more like £2-£2.k to me.

Congratulations, and I'd lose them too. What miles/spec has it?

Reading back it is fairly obvious, serves me right for a quick skim through the thread between domestic servitude.

1999 (so 3.4), Carrera 4. I suppose it's pretty basic spec, but i don't think they came with much to begin with.
None sunroof, which I prefer, 3 spoke wheel and the alloys from the factory. 82k miles, with an absolutely ridiculous service history all in chronological order!
It went 2006 without a service, (but only about 8k miles between '05'-07 services) but otherwise there's a stamp every single year up to now.
Had cats replaced, discs and pads all round last year, as well as all 4 coffin arms. It's never had anything but Pirelli P Zero's (N rated) fitted in its whole life.
Just had a major service 600 miles ago (now 850 after my drive home!) so i'll get an interim oil and filter change done this year then a minor next year.
It's had about 6 brake fluid changes done at OPC, too!

It drives just spectacularly.
It is 'only' 300 brake horse, which when you consider a Golf on lease can be had with more power it isn't a headline figure anymore, but it's just the way it does 'it' that is very impressive.

Thanks very much.
Just got to get a grip of the guitar now, and my NY resolution list is looking smaller and smaller smile
Oh, and another house this year... That's going to be slightly more difficult after yesterday, lol.

That sounds like a great buy, and a keeper: early 996s are definitely one to watch.

Wasn't that long ago you could get a decent car like this one from a dealer for 12 grand. They're very much on the up.

Thanks Gents.
I'd be lying if I said I didn't buy it with a view to trying to make a little on it.
But it'll be used, reasonably sparingly, a couple of thousand a year.
Just tinkered with and kept in top condition then we'll see where we're at in 5 or 10 years with them smile

That's a great car. I sometimes see a well-kept silver one like this around and about and it looks brilliant. Definitely lose the tints but I can't see much point in deleting the rear wiper.

Has this gotten the upgraded IMS bearing?

I had read somewhere (quite a couple of places) about the earlier 996's immunity to extreme Bork from the IMS grenading and taking the engine with it.

Worth looking up I reckon.

Early 3.4s are almost immune as far as I'm aware - it's also a much smaller chance than internet folklore would have you believe.

Then every now and then there's someone who has a car that needed a rebuild. wavey

Early 996's have a bigger IMS bearing that is generally believed to be more sturdy.

They could spend £300 and get it sorted permanently too.
