Options 248 and 844. Perfect family wagon. Nice buy!
Thank you. I have been chasing one of these for a long time. Yet to see it but I am purchasing from a Merc forum member who has been fantastic, fixing all the little niggles before handing it over. Such as fixing a non retracting wing mirror, and replacing an intermittently malfunctioning powered boot lock. It inspires great confidence that someone would do this prior to selling and I am anticipating keeping this as a long termer. looking forward to the drive back from London this afternoon. As an additional bonus my wife thinks I am the best as I have suggested she books a cottage In Cornwall at Easter for a family holiday so that I can stretch its legs. I am looking forward to the driving as much as the surfing that we will do when we get there!

A true threadist if ever there was one - buy a V8 estate unseen and manage to get in the good books at the same time!

Sounds like a great car, hope it's up to muster. smile

Sun blinds and rear side bags, too: it was obviously very thoughtfully specified for carrying people. I look forward to reading about your drive back with it. Astonishing news about wife.

I quite like the Fluence.

They're of their time, in terms of being an early entrant in the low-end of the electric car market, and the range is really not good.

But they're very well equipped, pretty comfy and spacious (crap boot aside), and pretty lively from 0-40. An 80mph cruise is very unobjectionable, although not good for the already poor range.

The battery hire is a deal-killer though. If you do no miles, you might as well have a diesel (or small petrol) in financial terms. But if you do plenty of miles, the car doesn't really have sufficient range.

6/10, not a bad effort all things considered, undone by a poorly thrashed-out financial stranglement.

It is also pretty messy when you buy a used Fluence, since you also acquire the battery that Renault then expect you to rent. It takes Renault quite a while to catch up with you, and their approach to asking you for money is not very slick. Not a great experience. Especially if the used battery Renault are demanding you lease from them is tired and worn-out.
I commute 50 miles a day (round trip) and spend £200 a month on fuel. Having to spend £77 a month on a battery lease plus a bit of electricity ((£20 a month maybe?) is a far cheaper option. If I needed a car for this routine, had a budget of £3k to purchase and wanted the cheapest thing to run outside of a tiny car like an Aygo or something (because I need room for 4 plus some school/sports equipment bags because my daily commute includes a school run for two children plus dropping the missus at a railway station), then this is surely a good answer. Alongside a second ICE family car on the drive for longer journeys (always going to need to own two cars in my family) then a Fluence looks like a cracking idea for a daily commuter car for me.

Wouldn't suit everyone's routine of course.

I'm in the same boat, although mine is 70 miles, so outside the winter round-trip range of everything but the shiniest new EVs for the moment... They certainly make a tempting proposition as a cheap daily mile muncher though.

Mine's closer to a 250 mile round trip.

So I take a supercharged V8 and enjoy the journey taking in a goodly number of A & B roads.

Because you might:

- pay maybe 5% of the original OTR price
- get lots of toys for your £££
- get to live with an interesting vehicle
- big
- comfortable
- wafty
- big engine
- have a car which can almost not depreciate
- get something enjoyable and which you can feel some inner pride

Not to mention fritter away endless hours dreaming about the next one on this thread....

YMMV

As others have said is a 4.8 v8 (365bhp I think).

Yes, bought blind, MOT is until April at some point but new one (and service) being done as part of the deal. I sent the money by bank transfer from my phone at 9.30pm when I was in bed.

Delivery looking most likely as I am maxed at work - quotes out on Shiply at the moment. I think when I had an A8 delivered from Norwich to Bournemouth that was £250 so hopefully it will be similar (or less!) this time.

Have bought two cars from the seller before and trust his description of the car.
