What sort of person lives in a tidy Hyacinth Bucket bungalow, with sensible hanging decorations and a toaster-and-kettle set with ears-of-wheat motif (probably) but drives a badly barried car-wash-owner V8 E-Class?

For anyone who wants a luxury barge:

The Lexus RX300

I sold mine for just £880 today.
It needed a new cambelt, 4 tyres, MOT and Tax but £880! Look at what you'd get for £5000.

Just look at that spec list.

- 2004 (54)
- 52,000 miles
- 3.0 V6 VVT-i engine
- top of the range SE-L model
- Xenon headlights with cornering function.
- Electric tilt and positioning steering wheel
- electric tailgate
- electric sunroof
- electric memory seats with fantastic lumbar support
- Sat nav
- climate control
- tape player (very rare nowadays!).
- Mark levinson premium sound system with 6 cd changer in the dash.
- Reverse camera
- 2 keys
- Full Lexus History
- rear entertainment system
- air suspension

Awful, but a very sound choice. But awful. But sound.

This looks rather tempting.. that indestructible Northstar V8 too.

I am picturing a see-saw, with interesting on one side, and crappy on the other.

It is quite a handsome thing, with some undoubtedly cool and innovative stuff.

But it is a GM Cadillac, and I dont watch itv.

80% of it will surely make me want to weep, and maybe self-harm in a minor hobbyist concealable-from-work kind of way.

Yet, it IS interesting.

Mine was horrendously ugly in every way. But it was a tank. Survived 3 crashes in which all the other cars were written off with extensive damage. I think I could drive it in to a building and just keep on going. Why do ram raiders use Audis hehe

It was also so comfortable. The most comfortable car I have ever driven. The seats didn't show any sign of wear at 120,000 miles. Nothing went wrong.
£880 was silly money!
Car - £880
Tax - £295
Mot - around £25
Tyres - £270 (Toyo Proxes SUV)
Cambelt - £60 (since he does the work himself, as a garage owner)

Total for a mint RX with a resale of £2500 : £1530

Profit: £970

I have been in a few of these and they were very comfy and had a good view out, including a hybrid version that was very pleasant indeed wafting about town. Seems like loads of car for the money that's for sure.

Here's a Hybrid SE-L.
Nowhere near as clean, or well specced, but still SE-L

Looks pretty much like the spec of my old a8 4.2, a claimed 73k miles with history. Some engine lightage. Not a real issue of course, according to the seller...! £1,750 http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2017...

For extra retro here's Clarkson on old top gear reviewing the then new a8: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMzB4XO9taU&ap...

I think the 300 model RX's seem to drop baue more than the hybrids for 3 reasons

- age. Hybrids were produced with the facelift, 2006 on.

- fuel. Hybrid can do 30mpg. Non hybrid, 25mpg

- desirability. Hybrids are much more desirable

I think they suffer from a lack of brand image compared to the usual Audi/BMW/Merc choices and the lack of a diesel in the SUV market. I was looking at the brand new one last week - a chap at work says his wife refuses to drive anything else, so just gets a new one every couple of years. Sounds expensive!

I had both, hybrid is far superior, the normal 300 is very poor

A quick reminder that there's a poll for the dates for the next barge meet up, which will be at the York Railway museum after Easter. The car park location may change following a suggestion here, but will be nearby. Please vote for your preferred date. All welcome, barge or no barge!

Don't the normally aspirated V12 get an oil leak in the middle of the V which costs a fortune to fix.

I love CL's but you need to have your eyes open.

No it is the coil packs which are the main risk (engine wise) which also expensively fail on the TT cars but in the latter case you are getting a lot of performance into the bargain.

nice find - had the same EML light on my old S8 relating to secondary air injection, either pump or vacuum related. it never felt underpowered or ill whilst on, just annoying to see

Could be some bargaining room if cambelt not done, my main concern would be the gearbox if not regularly serviced

MOT history suggests the light may have been on since 2006 yet "pretty much full dealer service history". Also perished tyres and damage to seat belt stalks suggest a neglected and abused A8, one to approach warily I think.

Horrible and cool in equal measure I reckon. Had they been rear wheel drive I'd be all over them. They are cheap as chips over here aswell.

Intriguing front lights - how is the indicator visible from the front and is that a sideways shining headlamp?
