Horrible and cool in equal measure I reckon. Had they been rear wheel drive I'd be all over them. They are cheap as chips over here aswell.http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/c...
On a happy Sunday morning barge trawl of Autotrader I've noticed that perfectly nice looking LS430s are going for less than significantly older and higher mileage LS400s, are they really that much more bork-y/unloved or is it just that the reputation/rarity of the LS400 is distorting the market?
I guess it's a long-winded way of saying that the LS430 looks rather unloved and absolutely blinding value at the moment.
Thoughts?

Great cars. Of course, people on this website will make up reasons why it's bad because Cadillac is part of General Motors.http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/c...
The problem with them (for me) is that they're rare enough that sellers don't get a consensus on price. Now it's 2017, they're old enough that I don't think they should be above £2000

I liked that. I was more concerned about the Discovery than the Mercedes though!Jimmy Recard said:

Is it really a great car though? Amongst its peers it is top half? Top quartile?
I'd say that in its class, preference is the most important thing and it wouldn't be my preference. It is a spacious, comfortable, well made car with a big boot and a wonderful V8 with some odd tricks. Possible 100k mile service intervals, running without coolant at 40 degree C heat.
Head gaskets can fail - that's probably my only real caveat.

No. I suspect a BMW E38 740i, Mercedes S500, Audi A8 4.2 or Jag XJ of that era would all run rings around it. The interior, in my opinion, looks utterly cack for a "premium" car.
You may well suspect that. The interior is one thing that really lets them down in pictures. It's not the best in the class (I would say the Audi A8 of the time was the best) but they're nicer inside than a Lexus LS400 and I would say on a par with the S-Class and XJ. A little worse than the 7-Series.edo said:
The dash in that caddy, esp the centre console looks familiar?
As far as I know it's unique to the Seville - some switches are shared with other Cadillacs but the dash overall is just for that car.Only the Cadillac Catera from that period would have shared nothing with it, and that's because it was built by Opel.

I suspect the driver of one of these sees himself (it will always be a he) as a spiritual successor to a Wild West Badlands hard-ass, whilst the poor unfortunates that have to look at the bloody thing from outside assume a purveyor of fast food products or an extra from Phoenix Nights or something. Puerile and unfair I know, but I sense that there's an undefinable touch of Saville about it.

Ghastly dashboard aside, I rather like these. Surprised we don't see more thread-love for them really. CharlesdeGaulle said:
You make a fair point Jimmy. It's just hard to see why anyone would actually want one.

And that's part of the problem for me. I quite like them but I can't think of a reason I'd have one over an S500 or XJ8. The Stuart Hall aura is hardly an attraction, as you note!

For anyone who wants a luxury barge:
The Lexus RX300
I sold mine for just £880 today.
It needed a new cambelt, 4 tyres, MOT and Tax but £880! Look at what you'd get for £5000.
Just look at that spec list.
- 2004 (54)
- 52,000 miles
- 3.0 V6 VVT-i engine
- top of the range SE-L model
- Xenon headlights with cornering function.
- Electric tilt and positioning steering wheel
- electric tailgate
- electric sunroof
- electric memory seats with fantastic lumbar support
- Sat nav
- climate control
- tape player (very rare nowadays!).
- Mark levinson premium sound system with 6 cd changer in the dash.
- Reverse camera
- 2 keys
- Full Lexus History
- rear entertainment system
- air suspension
That looks pretty classy too, for an SUV. Are the more desirable hybrids as reliable and long-lasting as one would expect? I guess the issue of battery life is very real as these things get older. The Lexus RX300

I was more talking about how it drives....I suspect the other equivalents would drive better....my mentioning of the interior was largely an aside point
I think you'd be pleasantly surprised on that - if you're expecting a wallowing American land yacht, they're not like that at all!The UK didn't get the Seville SLS, but that was much softer sprung and traditional American. The Seville STS was designed for international markets and the chassis set up is considerably different (as well as being a bit more powerful)

I've never much liked the RX300, but £880 is hard to ignore! What was the age/spec? Any problems in the way of a new MOT?The Lexus RX300

For European markets 100k before grenading is about right for Jaguar and BMW V8 engines of that era anyway?
