I agree with the comment on the c140. I wouldn't mind a 600SEL like the one Clarkson tested back in the day though: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KuEmA-Hdur0&ap...
They must be pretty rare with suffix rather than prefix badging. We had a green 600SEC here's a while ago that I liked, but it was rusty

Buy it new!
So in 2009 he bought one of the last S2000's new and he's covered about 20k miles since. If he's down £500 a year in deprivation I'd be very surprised.
And he's probably got a good 25 years of driving left, and he's convinced they're going to be a proper future classic. So if he's right, he might see a bit of appreciation in that time, too.
Your dad would fit right in here.

Wish I fitted safely in one. A 986s is a fantastic every day usable car with a fantastic engine and great chassis. Just an all round great package. If you're over 6ft check you can actually fit in one without your head coming into contact with the roll bars in the event of an impact. Sadly whichever I looked at it, including removing the lower centre console to make more leg room they just don't work for me personally. Otherwise I'd own one.

He has owned rather a lot of cars, a few of them could be classed as barges.
Big petrol head; very, very knowledgeable on Jaguar - all aspects.
However, having mentioned PH several times over the years, he's never got any further than the classifieds.

Okay it's 1.5 times budget and a jap import, but a 760 and lowish miles. http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-7-SERIES-760-Li-V12-AU...

A cheap and scruffy W140 for under £1k (surely can be haggled down?) and with 37k miles http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C839302

Looks tidy for someone probably not of this parish.

Shame about: engine, sea of grey, inordinate number of annoying switch blanks.

And the concealed registration, it suggests there's something to hide. Why do people do that...?

It would be for me. Maybe that style is a NI thing but to my eyes, it just looks wrong. In any case, I'd probably stick a cheap mainland registration on it.

No idea but it puts me off, first thing I would be doing, assuming I don't just move onto the next car is requesting it from the vendor. So what's the point?

When you've had your plate used and abused by criminals, it suddenly makes a lot more sense.

If someone is genuinely, GENUINELY interested - they'll phone up with more questions than just "REG NUMBER PLS LOL?". Then you know you're talking to someone serious, rather than a serial time waster and picture collector.

This car is far, far too grey for me - but now I'm doing 40k a year I ought to be driving something like it. A friend of mine reckons it's the last really decent E Class - but then I reckon men have been saying that for the last 20 years.

It is a very good spec on that car but I would prefer to see it standard.

Are the Lorinsers worth anything?

Does anyone know if these would be undersealed from the factory? Japanese domestic motors are not as no salt is used on the roads so I wonder if the likes of BMW would mess around with production lines and pull out motors bound for Japan and not underseal them?

That's the one thing that worries me about buying a Japanese import and then having to get the thing undersealed in the UK.
