I wish the scrappage scheme had never existed.

Spent the evening browsing "bring a trailer" most of the UK's versions got scrapped so people could have a brand new daewoo.

I do love a Minstrel though oddly.
Agreed. Sliey vegetable oil crap but Minstrels are oddly compelling, especially if consumed along with a cup of tea biggrin

You could use this one for tip runs for a year, then at the end of the year, just leave it at the tip.
We will ignore the nastiness of the first one you posted and instead focus on how utterly glorious this is:

I've had a love for the original Galaxy ever since I was 6 years old and this is bringing it all back. Stunning.

I wouldn't buy it of course, because it would be st.

I certainly couldn't see any women in there.

Blimey, I have one evening off and its about a dozen pages of BMW lurve. I had no idea that something as modern as the Z4M had so comprehensively accelerated away from the lower reaches if its depreciation curve. Everyone's stocking up with cars they can drive once all the robocars arrive.

Meanwhile I am very much enjoying having my E39 Touring back in service. Having had the wheels refurbed I might go mad and put a new set of CrossClimates on it even though the existing Conti PremiumContacts are only part worn (about half done at the front, about 2/3rd done at the back). I need to get them re-balanced on the Hunter road force balancer anyway, and at that point I can't really justify continuing with the rears, and if I replace the rears with a different make I might as well change the fronts as well.

We still need to replace one front window chrome trim, which I have in stock, but am waiting for the rubber real that goes with it as they are best replaced as a pair. It's the one that swoops up following the line of the A pillar and along the top of the door, nearside. The one that is on the car is ok but it;s slightly rippled from being taken off and put back on.

Getting ready for front seat refurbs next.

Ah...I stand corrected!

Yes...M52.

As I understand though there is a certain fragility to that engine because of how far Alpina took it?

Now, what I did...and this is "Advanced Stuff"...in a semi-Huntsman style is this:

Rather than the "Stick and Carrot" approach, I employed the "Stick and Stick" approach i.e. the lesser of two evils.

So, some of you may know I that I have this mega-low mileage 8-Series? It's just been valued at a decent amount of money. So, when this pops up (and is even very local...like 10 mins away!) and I say I might buy it as well and you were trying to put a brake on me wouldn't you cash your chips in at me spending half that amount of money on a Z4M and think you've done 'ok' in averting a major financial crisis?
I reckon its a variation on the 'reverse sell'

One of my chums circled a £3M (!) boat in the back of Yachting World, wrote some notes next to it and left it lying in the kitchen, his wife was somewhat alarmed but crumpled instantly when he said in fact he wanted to have a semi custom job built for a mere £1.6M.

There's powerful tools at our disposal.

I keep thinking I should have a Tiger Moth, but I always end up on a mental slippery slope of "well, it should be a Stampe", for the handling and aerobatic capability, then "but a Chipmunk is cheaper to run" and then "but a Cap-10C would be so much more fun", and then "but another Yak-52 is value for money", and then thinking "that's just wasteful in these expensive-fuel times", and settling on a Vans RV-8. Which, I suppose, is why there are so many RV-8s out there. Meanwhile I don't really have a working / travelling life pattern that gives me time to get current and stay current properly so it's just pipe dreams. Pleasant ones though.

Head gaskets are a consumable on them, but as long as you keep an eye on it and replace them at the first sign of failure the rest of the engine is solid.

Yep, not a fan of them either. Either simple Dairy Milk or Green & Blacks.

The wife keeps asking me when am I buying another car.
I'm on the iPad every night checking the classifieds.
Trouble is I cannot make up my mind what I want.
Hopefully going to view a couple of possibilities on Thursday work permitting,
Are they local to you (and me)? Anything interesting?

Indeed, but it's better than that hideous people carrier.

( Cadbury's seems to have been replaced with American slime now, so even Dairy Milk is avoided. )

Am trying hard not to buy this.
I have an A4 (TDi) of similar age that is utterly dependable and totally rust free, yet it would seem the 2.4 is a bit unloved and hence ludicrously cheap to buy. It is a manual, just had cambelt done, and seems clean and tidy. Ad says £1650.

Thinking of parting with my barge after 10 years of ownership and 35k miles (yes that's all...)

It's my 52 plate E39 540i sport auto individual now with 80k on the clock. Serviced annually even at less than 4k per year and also gearbox serviced last year. Nothing else has needed doing.

Is this a £3995 car or a £4995 car? Opinions welcome...

The latter I think. 540is are making good money and low miles Sport in Imola is very desirable.

Agreed. I'd be surprised if a £4995 asking did not generate a fair bit of interest.
Just wanted to say thanks for all the advice received. Looks like the value is quite a bit more than I thought which will enable me to get the car into tip top condition for sale (it doesn't need much), probably in the spring if anyone is still interested.

Many thanks
