Evening all, as a long time follower of this thread in particular, thought it was about time I posted. Car history is very long from mk2 escorts as a teen to more recently ticking off various cars that I've liked, including RX8, MX5, LS400, 9-5 aero (couldn't bond with it). Had many lease cars over the years, some interesting some white goods.
Anyway my latest purchase, collect tomorrow, has prompted me to post. A8 D2 2.8 Quattro sport. 52 plate with pretty decent service history and 67,000 miles.

Long time lurker, first time poster... As an ex-owner of what was a hopelessly shonky W108 280 SE, did you ask him if the heater blower was working correctly? If it's dead, it's a right bugger to replace properly.
A fantastic first post on PH! Welcome, please post more! Long story shortish...working in California and renting my department secretary's ex-husband's house (!)... one day, I'm pottering about in the dining room, I hear a car pull up with a lovely deep burbling exhaust note. It's Barbara the secretary, dropping something off, and driving this 108. Yes, obviously the exhaust was blowing which explained the sound.
I can't quite remember how she came by it. It was an original euro market 108, bought in Germany and shipped back to the US at some point - I'm guessing a US airman who ended up at nearby Moffett Field brought it back.
Anyway, interest was expressed and several hundred dollars exchanged (can't remember exactly how much, but definitely less than $400) and the car was mine. Interior - frayed and sun-damaged. Paint - matt, dull and wrecked from the sun, although the front bonnet and wings had had a recent-ish respray and looked presentable. Floors - rusted through on the passenger side, with driver's side going the same way. Front door bottoms - mostly departed. Valves? A smoke screen to match the blue paint, desperately in need of a regrind. Exhaust - as mentioned, a-blowing. After market air-conditioning unit? Kaput. And most infuriating, an engine hesitation that I never did figure out. Plugs, wires, electronic points, timing, coil - nada - nothing helped.
Served me well when I couldn't be bothered cycling to work, and ended up selling it to a forklift truck driver a couple of years later when I moved on to a sensible 126. Saw it a few weeks later outside his work, looked like he'd tried to drive it into a garage that wasn't wide enough.
And the blower motor - yes, it didn't work either. But when the engine wasn't hesitating and stuttering, that turbine smooth inline 6 waft was lovely.
The car I should have brought home. Hindsight...

Monsieur Hermes247 has a couple of new vehicles up for sale...although the S type isn't photographed in the usual location.

I'm more interested in this, which currently isn't showing any pics etc but as it's a seven seater, must be an estate, which is what I was looking for.

4 grand Phaeton v10 coal burner.
"one bad point screen comes on and goes of when it wants so could just be a loose wire"
I'm sure it's not.
I've got a real thing for Phaetons just now. I've convinced myself the 3.0 diesel would make the ideal discount luxury daily driver.
I'm sure if I'm delusional or not.

I rather like the total anonymity and fingers-up-to-conventional-status of the Phaeton and the sixes are certainly the rational approach to one. I am not an authority but before buying one I would try to find out about spares availability and pricing. For sure a lot of it mechanically will be in common with other VAG cars but I have a vague folk memory that some of the Phaeton-only bits may be hard to get now, and/or horrifically pricey. I'm sure someone on a proper VW forum will know for sure but it might be worth finding out if you're seriously interested in one.

I really like those, so I immidiately popped over to the classifieds, and the cheapest Phaeton of any kind for sale in Sweden atm is a 14 year old, 143000 mile 3.2 v6 petrol...at £7000. Not happening."one bad point screen comes on and goes of when it wants so could just be a loose wire"

There is also a 03 W12 for £10.000 with a combined stack of reciepts totalling over £70.000 from dealer workshops for sale aswell, really confidence inspiring that...

I did look into it a bit and most service and consumable brake parts can be bought from ECP and the like. The engine is shared with a million other VAG products so things like turbos and injectors shouldn't be too hard to get second hand or refurbished.
I imagine things relating to the electrical system, brake calipers and parts relating to the 4x4 system maybe more tricky to source.

Early 124s in good colour schemes are always a treat. Makes me miss my 230.

Rare to find one on TRX's these daysTRXs are the annoying thing about a lot of decent cars from that era. To avoid TRX they end up on the wrong wheels
People here will laugh, but there was a time I really wanted a Montego Turbo but didn't buy one because I only liked them on the TRX wheels and didn't want to be stuck with TRXs

Could have at least hoovered it, that carpets gross. If he can't be bothered to clean it for the advert, what else can't he be bothered to sort?"one bad point screen comes on and goes of when it wants so could just be a loose wire"

Hadn't noticed that until I looked at the ad on a PC rather than a phone. Then I noticed the individual in the drivers seat is wearing tracksuit bottoms or his pyjamas. Ahmm oot as they say.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
