First registered 31 December 1990. Wouldn't you wait 24 hours longer for a '91 date?

Not if it meant a killer deal to get in by month/year end.

As Woody says, double glazing needs to have an air gap to truly be so called, anything else is laminated with an inter-layer, clever or otherwise. The glazing pictures were certainly not there an hour ago!
Agree on the former point, although that doesn't even look like the W220 "double glazing".

On the second, are you looking at the first 12 only? Because in the (as usual) extensive photos under the description they're about ¾ of the way down....
No, the photos in the text, rather than the top of the listing. I was at the MOT station when I checked, so on 3G, but the footer etc. below the pictures was there, so I don't think the omission of the glass pics was IT related - but quite why they disappeared and reappeared is beyond me.

(If ever there was an illustration of barge loser-dom it's debating the nature of the glass in a middle aged estate car - the things I will engage in to avoid writing up my team's appraisal forms......).

Yes, that has an appeal. Not sure if it's £5,000 worth, mind you.

Which makes it more appealing to a choice few, a much nicer car to drive, plus quite a bit rarer?

Is the general rule for Saab 9-5's just to get the sump dropped for peace of mind?

Apologies as I know its mentioned lots of time on here but couldn't find a definitive answer. Going to view a few at the weekend and wasn't sure if it impacted all models or just certain engines/models

Cheers
Yes, for petrol engined ones. The only model for which an argument is put forward for not bothering is the Aero, as this was always specified to have fully synth oil, so a full proper service history with documented fully synth changes at 6000 miles is seen by some as a reason for not doing it. Still, I'd do the drop, particularly for pre-2004 models. That's the model year when a better pick up/strainer was fitted which did not suffer like the old ones. Also, some say that all post-2004 cars are safe, but I'd still do it for peace of mind if purchasing one.

UKSAABS forum is a good resource to search, I got most of my info from there.

Yours, a former 9-5 owner (who now has an S211 E class and wishes he had the SAAB Still).
Cheers Silversixer thumbup
Message, summarised, is do a drop. My 2002 Aero had FSH, yada yada. It nagged me, so I got it dropped. Good call as the strainer was mostly blocked. For the cost vs peace of mind, JFDI smile
Just to add, the aero is the only one to go for in my opinion.

Check the history for replacement Direct Ignition Cassettes. They all go at some point, again and again.

The Crank Position Sensors go a lot too. Symptoms are failing to start when hot. A new one recently is good news (same with DIC).

Check all the pixels work on the dash, they're a common fault. Think they eat rear subframe bushes too.

There are hardy cars though, and don't seem to rust much. Also, when they do go wrong it's usually a fix in the low hundreds rather than extreme bork.

I do miss miss my old aero, was a fabulous long distance GT with the Harman Kardon system and heated leather seats. And the mid-range, that's amusing...

Just view the DIs as a consumable, and carry a spare. There's always someone who'll sell you one at a decent price on UKSaabs.

They are haevy on suspension, as said. 50p-shaped rear tyres are a classic symptom.

Lidl Fruit & Nut FTW
This was niggling at me from pages ago so I had to try some. If it's the brand beginning with 'B' in the light cardboard wrapper rather than the plastic wrapped ones, then yes (Why they have two fruit and nuts, I don't know). They are very good indeed. Would go well after a pickled egg starter and port and lemon aperitif.

Good point - i found some brands more susceptible to this than others - avoid Pirelli & Dunlop (Dunlop Sport Maxx went like this within 3000 miles). I started using Michelin PS2 and did not suffer same problem, nor did earlier Goodyear F1's

Shame it's silver, but a W12 Phaeton is very wantable. Great find.
For something so plain I can't help but love how these look.

How do they fare on the bork-likelihood chart compared to the XJ's, 7 series, A8's and S-classes of this world?

edit: not exclusively talking about 12 cylinder versions here...

Er, he promises to put it though an MOT if he gets a deposit but isn't going to fix the mirror himself before selling? Does not add up. Or are non-broken door mirrors not required for an MOT?

I'm not sure you need them at all for the MOT.

They aren't checked for functionality though, AFAIR.

I did a thing today that I've never done before - I left a note under a windscreen wiper to offer to buy a car. I think it will fit in here, should I receive a positive phone call about it

Crikey tobinen, you can tell it's the weekend. What with the thread staples of pickled egg and a port and lemon, plus a bar of nutty, you are pushing the boat out.
