The perfect thread car. If it looks in good condition, even better news - being a p38 the owner must be fed up with the bills keeping it on the road by now smile
snigger, probably! It looks like it's only done 30k miles since I last saw it in 2004. It seems nice that a Range Rover with the biggest petrol V8 of its day got 16" wheels as standard. My Astra had 18" wheels as standard in 2005

That's a smashing find, I hope the seller co-operates sometime soon. I'd love to find my Dad's old XJR, I suspect it's long-since gone to the bin.
Pop the reg up, we may between us all spot it!

Double glazing, which I have never seen before on a w211.
I'll be amazed if i has, I've never heard of it on a 211 and the pics look pretty standard. Perhaps he's been carried away by the quarterlights? Nice car though, and a rare specification however you look at it.
Agree it does not look like proper W140 double glazing. Apparently on later cars (not just Mercs) a laminate between two sheets of glass is used so they are technically double glazed in that they have two sheets of glass but not an air gap like on the W140. I suspect when you see an advert claim 'double glazing' this is what they mean unless the advert is for an example of the greatest car ever wink
I was sceptical yesterday, and commented before looking at the eBay advert - it had photos of the edges of side windows, hence my edit. Those photos have now gone - he clearly reads this thread! - but they weren't standard glass. I wonder if it is the heat reflecting glass - I don't recall laminate being an option either. The text needs editing now!

(Currently at the MOT station with the A124 - borderline on emissions last year, but a rewired throttle body and new lambda sensor and "it's walked the emissions test". Just awaiting the overall verdict!).
I saw the pictures and thought it was double glazing.

I noted that he added the reference to double-glazing later. It definitely wasn't there first time I read the ad. I agree he must read this thread.

I have scoured my old brochures and price lists for the w211 and can find no reference to double glazing.

Edit: the double glazing pictures are still there.

If you scroll all the way down he has included the spec sheet which includes,

596 HEAT INSULATING+IR REFLECTG.SAFETY GLASS ALL-ROUND .
Just came on here to confirm the glass on my S211 is nothing like that.

Probably a long shot but could it be armoured glass? Perhaps originally the car belonged to someone of considerable high net worth or celeb status that might make them a target?

4.2 SE A6 estate, 2006 114k miles.

Looks very smart. It looks more than 4bags worth, especially if it had a random cheap personal plate

Nope, armoured is massively thick stuff: think w140 double glazing and then some.

This w211 has the same glass as in our w220.

I like that. 55 plate is also great as it's the last plate before the big tax hike.

Its like a bad 1970s home makeover, wrong on too many levels?

But, is it cheap and fault free, in which case, highly desirable!

Would be similar to my old 745i....which did 166mph by GPS. Apparently.

The very opposite of bland - see today's dull white or silver boxes with black interiors. I like it a lot! I accept wrong though - but that's what makes it so right smile

Of all that's so very wrong with that, the only thing that actually bothers me is the fact it's manual.

r129sl must have done something subliminally mind-altering because the colours (or non-colours, take your pick) are growing on me.

A manual 230E isn't something I'd consider, but otherwise rather charming.

Manual spoils it for me.

Beige was always an odd choice. I never liked it in period. But at least it was offered as a choice. Now there's no choice at all. And so I like it a great deal.

It does look very rich when clean and polished.

It's just fantastic. I managed to rekindle my own love for them the other day.

I'm not scared. I'll have one if a nice one comes along at the right price and time.

It's quite sweet. Like someone had once read advice on how to sell a car from some dodgy dealer in a 90s car rag and still uses it today.
