That's so cool. I would change the wheels and grille back to a colour that's more subtle though!

I'm afraid I need to issue notice of a possible W124 demise... something I thought would never ever happen...

It's my 1994 E280 wagon. The main radiator fan pulley went, and took the v belt with it. Decided to do the viscous coupling while we were in there. Total with labour and VAT, thick end of £900.

I also hit a deer, and a scuffed front bumper and cracked rear bumper to sort out - just 35k miles worth of parking issues I suppose (my fault). I said let's sort the arches out while we are in there. They said the bill for sorting out the front wings (new wings), new headlamp (deer) and all the above would be another £2700 inc vat. I said yes on the basis that then you have a nicely restored W124 which should be good for the next 175k miles.

Then they arrived at the back of the car to do the arches and found that both rear 3/4 windows have been leaking for a while and it's a mess...

I can't face a £5k+ bill on car worth £4k. The pisser is that they've already done the engine work and started the front. Gah!
That's a difficult spot to be in, especially if the work has actually started. I suppose it comes back to what you plan on doing with the car, if you plan on selling shortly then is makes no financial sense however if it's a keeper then in my mind the bill v's the value of the car is largely irrelevant. As you say you might sink 5k into it but then it should be good for at least the next 10 years without the need for major bodywork.

Oh I love the M3. Manual or SMG?

Perhaps get around to putting an Ad on car and classic and here for the 190 with good photos and a strong price. They sell reasonably slowly but someone might come along.
M3 is Manual, would like to try and SMG but I just like the Manual even though its a bit agricultural!

To be honest at the moment I don't want to sell the 190, I've done a few jobs but not quite all of them yet. I may do some photos etc, I just think these cars are more desirable in nice weather - no car this age feels great at 1oC in the rain!

On the basis that you're committed to over a thousand pounds of work already - which, presumably, you'll never see back - I'd be inclined to press-on and then have a car that'll be usable and presentable for another 10 years.

Not an easy choice though, and a bit of a bummer.

Not exactly under-stated is it?

That definitely fails the funeral test, although that hurdle is overcome by buying multiple cars, obvs.
I think there are some funerals where that would be entirely appropriate. It's very Lock, Stock...

It also reminds me of the famous AMG 'Hammer' and the car featured in adverts that used to be in Fast Lane et al for contemporary turbo conversions. Magic.

That E500 doesn't get any less scrummy. Will it hit upper thread budget? This £1,750 540 looks like a nice colour-matched bargain alternative.

That looks really nice and good value for money. At that bracket of thread budget it could tempt me out of my V70 but the Volvo is so darn good it makes no sense to change and it's hard to justify 2 estates!

I have just purchased this for £2,600. It's an E60 BMW 530i SE, 130k on the clock, full BMW service history

Indeed. Very reliable engine too, as well as being sprightly and smooth. Is there any evidence of a water pump change in the history? If not you might want to think about doing it as a precaution. I managed to get mine changed for £350 all in, would have been north of £900 at the BMW dealer!

Like the colours on that. Shame they haven't painted the rear tow bar cover. Or mentioned the presence of said tow bar.

It shows how much taste varies between individuals - I don't particularly like that, yet most on here seem to love it. It is a bit too brash for me! smile

It is a question of what the car is worth to you. If it has no sentimental value, then maybe it is time to call it a day. I spent more on my car than it is worth by some margin and I don't regret it, but it has a sentimental value to me.

This looks interesting and in good condition (barring a headlight lens polish), especially considering the vendor!

£1,750 with a day left for a late (post facelift) S-Type R

This is hugely tempting.

It'd be worth £1500 as a rolling scrapper, right?

Soupçon de détail now provided in the ad. And extra pictures.
I like it.
It doesn't have 7-seats, memory seats or heated seats unfortunately or I'd be considering changing my 320. If their fuel consumption expectations are truthful there's something wrong with my car or my foot. It has the mesh grille to the centre speaker so it has a lot of the electronic upgrades which is a good thing.

Someone said earlier that they thought their kids would ruin the interior. My 211 has light grey leather and carpets and, like the W124 I had before, it's good quality and responds well to cleaning. I have 3 male resident urchins who are adept at muddying their environment, but we've had no problems.

I'm watching the auction out of interest but won't bid because of the lack of seats.
It was me who posted up the E500 originally and made the comment about the seats.
I'm not doubting you're cleaning comments but with darker seats it's easier to ignore the muck and mess that 4 year old twins make.
The number of bids and price it's up to already, means it's going to make strong money.

I think the camera lens was left in Jazz Mag setting when those photos were taken.

Given the quality of the photos and the appearance of the car it's hard to begrudge the vendor a good price.

I remember being ridiculed by some 'friends' when using that term (in a witty anecdote about a third party I'm sure) - started to doubt myself as to it's correct use after that but your post has confirmed I was right 👍

I wonder what this made today. The wrong wheels, but it's rare to see a proper 535. 65k miles as well. http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C817986
