I rather like the look of this. Thoughts? Funky interior and some work done. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2017...
That garden furniture doesn't instill confidence.0a said:

I knew they had that half leather/ambla and half cloth interior in the base spec X300 but never seen it in an X308 before. That is going to be one meanly specified car, it may not even have cruise.r129sl said:
I am knocking around in this borrowed plume. It is an E220 cabriolet with 94,000miles. Anyone who says the 4-cylinder M111 engine is unrefined hasn't driven one. While it does not like to be thrashed like a good six, it is remarkably quiet, smooth and strong; the front of the car feels very light, too.
These start well within thread budget and I would commend one to anyone seeking a four-seat drop-top cruiser.
I keep thinking about changing the 129 for one of these. I just can't really face the buying and selling process at the moment. Cycled by a blue 124 cab this morning and they look great. These start well within thread budget and I would commend one to anyone seeking a four-seat drop-top cruiser.
To be honest, I think the 124 cab is better than the 129. I prefer the 124 feel. It is also better with the roof up than the 129 is with the hardtop on, quieter that is. And it's much more spacious in the back. Of course, no 124 is going to come close to a 500 for go go but, frankly, who cares?

Hmm that's a good point. Would I be right in saying it's worth looking out for the 4.0 engine as well?
Yes, more power and the 3.2 didn't get variable valve timing either so the power curve isn't so flat and broad. It only existed to give an entry level model and now they are all buttons I see no point in the 3.2. It's not as much of a 2nd choice as the 3.2 AJ16 in the X300 though, that had lower gearing so the economy was often worse than the 4.0.dme123 said:

Browsing, it seems like there are lot more 3.2s, often with lowish miles and in better condition than 4.0s. Perhaps the supercharged engine is the answer (budget and scope creep!). anonymous said:

I don't know, but it's Spring and the sun is out, so probably 25% more than yesterday...I've just wondered about swapping my bike [ Heresy! ] for a rag-top-mini-Barge of some sort, having passed some sort of modern SLK-type thingy outside a big, posh house in Northwood with a hand-made For Sale note.... resisted the temptation to stop, because whatever it is has some years to go before being threadworthy on £££ alone....
Now - in Ricky - a classic rag top Mercedes has just wafted by....

No it doesn't have cruise only one button at the back of the gear lever, real poverty spec r129sl said:

I've been out in mine too today, and most enjoyable it was. These start well within thread budget and I would commend one to anyone seeking a four-seat drop-top cruiser.
Mine is a 6 which as you say, rewards an enthusiastic driver. I've not driven a 4 cylinder A124 but as they are by no means sports cars in any case I can't see that the overall experience would be any less rewarding.
I'd also agree that for anyone after a cabrio they make a very appealing buy. They really are very well put together and the roof is a thing of beauty.

They seem to take a long time to sell. £4k for a 220 and £8k for a 320 seems to be the starting point. Low milers are hawked at £25k and more but no one buys them.I thought about selling mine a while back and was looking at pitching it in the 10-12 bracket. In the end, I decided to keep it so never tested the market. As a result, I've no real idea of what a nice but high mileage 'normal' car would fetch, but I think you'd get something decent still in single figures.
Great to have some good weather arrive, gave the e55 a wash today and went out for a drive...
I've been considering selling it, baby no 3 on the way really means I need 6 seats but after driving the old bus today I'm not sure I can part with it. I realise there isn't much love for the 210 and I'm biased but I love it.
