Did you have a thread on your '40 SJ? I really want one before they go stratospheric when the cheap ones are all dead.
I didn't. Mine was ok, but not actually nice. But it was enough to know how much I'd love a really nice one.BigBen said:
My money is on 4-pot E-Class, nothing bigger (7, S or A8) can be boring as it is big enough to be interesting in its own right.
You might be right. Hadn't considered it from that perspective. CharlesdeGaulle said:

Stand by for more news once I've taken a couple of snaps.
Such a tease ...Stand by for more news once I've taken a couple of snaps.
An S320 dizzle, but with a few nice extras and generally in good nick. Long wheel-base. The all-singing seats are quite a lot cleverer than I am.
130% of top budget, but leggier W221 will be in budget in about an hour. Possibly already are? Don't adjust your screens - that is mismatched paint on the rear bumper and it's making my teeth itch. Probably in truth a 1,500,000 mile mini-cab.

Could it be a Mercedes W221 S320 CDi LWB?
No self respecting threadist would dare buy a dag-dag barge and even admit to it, much less post about it. So I'm ruling this out as a non starter.SpeckledJim said:

I love wood mix steering wheel. Does it have the blinds in the rear doors?
It doesn't, but it has an electric rear window blind, which I think comes with the LWB?The steering wheel is a disastrously ugly piece of design. And too thick. But the half-wood is nice, and it's in very nice condition.
Typical M-B sticky steering wheel buttons are being gradually picked clean as a new traffic-jam hobby.
I'm getting to grips with the voice control, and have to say it's very impressive indeed. I generally communicate in clicks, grunts and whistles, like a grumpy clanger with laryngitis, but nevertheless, she understands me.

Very nice, it certainly is big!
How's the ride?
Good, it has three modes, as far as I can tell:How's the ride?
- Comfort
- Ignore
- Ignore+
I'm sure the sheer distance between the front and rear wheels makes a good contribution to stability and pitch-control.
Whilst you can feel and hear the front tyres hit a pothole, you don't hear anything like the same from the following impact from the back.
The clever seats have active bolsters that counter cornering forces. I've switched that witchcraft off. Disconcerting. But the ventilation and massage are very nice, and the range of adjustment (not just from the buttons on the door, but also from a big and complicated sub-menu on the central screen controlled by the doobery on the centre console) is quickly spoiling me for every other car.

I loved my XJ40, but there's no denying that an average mpg of 13 hurt.
13mpg? Was it a V12? I averaged about 20mpg over a long period with my 1996 X300 4.0 and about 17mpg from a 1995 XJ12.Six. Miles per gallon.
