If everyone else could refrain from bidding so that you can learn from the comfort of your armchairs how difficult it is to get a windscreen for an Audi V8, then that would be lovely.
In period I thought these were fabulous cars. They were very rare, especially in Newcastle. I'm not sure that age has been kind, however. I note that Autoglass purport to have a windscreen in stock... I wonder what other parts availability is like.
I may have posted this previously when a V8 cropped-up but I always remember one of the contemporary magazine reviews pointing out that the model was so understated that Audi wouldn't provide an option to supply identifying badges; all the competitors of course gave the option to delete the model inscription. I did think that was a nice touch and very 'Audi' of the era in hindsight.

Not hugely bargey, but thread loves a Volvo.

There can't be many cars owned by one family for 53 years. Very desirable as a nice little spring-time project.

Wasn't the V8 an Audi 100 C3 with extra bits on the front?

Would an Audi 100 C3 windscreen really not fit?

That makes it sound like it should have been wearing a Chevrolet badge.

The estate looks like the SAAB 9-3 estate but didn't arrive til 2008 and I don't know if it came with the V6 turbo.
Hmm, in fairness most 3-Series and A4s I see have manual cloth seats and manual gearboxes and diesel engines

The turbo V6 is still offered now (in the Insignia), so I don't see why it wouldn't be offered in the estate BLS. Whether any were ordered or not, who knows!

More importantly, that Audi V8 is mega cool. The proportions look a bit odd now, but I still would

Beautiful car, but how badly must things be going for that seller to flog it off?

What a cool colour combination. Very late 70s/early 80s: http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/RARE-1983-MERCEDES-PHASE-0...

I wouldn't have thought Audi 100 C3 windscreens were common, but not unobtainable.

Could be a whole host of reasons that nobody would know about, but it does mean that a cracking looking motor is up for sale.

That's a perfect dead ringer of my grandad's E320 CDI (apart from the screens in the backs of the headrests)

The extended family would think I've grown up, I'd have a cheap V8. It needs consideration

I just can't stand boring colour schemes like that anymore.
Maison du Palmier's maroon colour and cream interior looked
"Sexy af " as the kids say now.

I love cream interiors.
And maroon.

I'm guessing it's the trader's seating position, but gangster driver's seat settings? Oldham?

I suspect, judging by the alloys, you may find it isn't as minty as the pictures suggest.

My memory is decidedly shonky regarding these, but I seem to recall that although it looked similar to the Audi 200 (not 100!), it was mostly entirely different in every way.
I also remember something about the front disks being quite innovative, like they were fully floating or had internal calipers or something.

YouTube video showing front discs:

The V8 is so much 100/200 C3 based that I reckon if the V8 had a different windscreen the marketing people would have made something of it, just to push the 'It's not a 100' message.

The Georg Kacher review said the V8 didn't really offer any advantages above the 200 Turbo 5 pot Quattro. He said the V8 made a different noise, I think saying it sounded like a Rover V8 mixed with a Golf GTi.

I'm wondering how much the V8 was just a marker, to inform the market for the S-Class and BMW 7 Series, that Audi did upmarket, comparable prestige before the A8 arrived.

There was a Press photo in the early 80s with an Audi 100 C3 shell made from Aluminium showing a woman at each end holding the bodyshell up off of the ground. They were normal looking women, that I don't think were Russian or East German Shot Putters.

You're probably right. I was a bit of an Audi fan in the 80's, before they went all fashionable and blingy, my Dad had a 1985 100 CC model, in about '86 or '87. Don't remember too much about the V8 though really, I thought it was a different car from the ground up, but maybe I'm thinking of the A8 instead.

According to Wikipedia, it's largely based on the 100/200, with different bumpers/lights and interior, and a wider track. So I agree, a 100/200 windscreen would probably fit just fine.

I think this is expensive. Bought my e500 estate for significantly less than that....

2 things from the ad:

restored and cared for by my father in more recent years

Pictures are 4-5 years old for reference - car would need some general tlc to look like this again

equals:
Father has been in failing health for the last 4-5 years, now passed on, no-one in the family is the faintest bit interested in "manky old cars" or has anywhere to keep it (garages full of junk and new PCP cars on the drives every 2 or 3 years).

I agree with your interpretation. But if it's still approximately like the photographs, that could be the find of the week.

It's a totally gorgeous thing. I'd love one of these, or a Rover P6.

Very much so, I would be amazed if the tab mentioned in the Benzworld thread is not the problem.

I have rotated the sensor off the car so know it can put out the correct Voltage so a mis-rotated sensor makes absolute sense.

Thank you, I will report back tomorrow when I have had a go at a fix (assuming a dry evening)

Ben
Krikkit I owe you many beers, reattached the sensor into its hole and before I even hooked up the computer to reset everything the car settled at the correct height. I can drive it again!

Ben
Great news !
