I've yet to see a nicely modified Lamborghini.
Then again, Liberty Walk are the only people id trust to modify a Ferrari

On this note, I fully do NOT understand why people take the most common of common cars, and then want to mod them under the premise of wanting 'something different to everyone else' or 'wanting to stand out'. If that was true you wouldn't start with a common car like a Corsa/Focus/whatever..
CaptainCosworth said:
Because the most common of common cars tend to be cheaper to buy...?
Really? I don't believe you... sorry. All I meant was that some people want something a bit different, but if they're on a budget then a cheap common car with a few mods is all their budget stretches to. Not to everyone's tastes, obviously, but so long as they're not revving the nuts off it at 3am then I don't see the problem.

What type of cars come across chav like if someone modifies them?
Do you believe it has to at least be a proper hot hatch before exhausts and lowers etc are considered okay, or are warm hatches acceptable? What about the bog standard model?
Is it just a certain type of car that or is it a case of any car aslong as its tasteful, please share your opinions.
A person should do as he or she "likes" and not look to the "heard" unless the agenda is to blend in.Do you believe it has to at least be a proper hot hatch before exhausts and lowers etc are considered okay, or are warm hatches acceptable? What about the bog standard model?

Modding your car is about you liking it better, not dave from next door.
If only that was true though. For example, there is no way on Earth, anyone with eyesight and more than 2 brain cells could claim (with a straight face) that these look good.
They might well be a statement. But by any conceivable measure they look dreadful and are miss proportioned. It's only peer pressure and the want to conform with a certain group or to be associated with a certain group of people, that anyone would ever claim they look good.
But the work looks quality, and believe it or not, different people like different things, the mere fact that people bought Chrysler PT cruisers of their own free will to drive around in should prove that.
Unless off course you want to claim that the owners of those cars put that much effort/money into them ironically, or are mentally disabled..

As an example 300, your personal garage is full of cars that I find awful to look at but I wouldn't suggest you've bought them because of some need to conform. You have them because you like them, and good for you.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder as they say, works the same for modded and standard cars.

But we weren't talking general principles. I specifically said people who buy common cars, but mod them under the premise of wanting to be different to everyone else. All I meant was that some people want something a bit different, but if they're on a budget then a cheap common car with a few mods is all their budget stretches to. An example.
Why buy a Fiesta and mod it and still have it looking like a Fiesta. When you can buy say a Puma for the same money and already be different straight away
Or be daring and buy something far less common for the same budget. Even if you then modify that.
I'll give another example, back in the late 1990's I had a number of mates who wanted "to be different". So 4 of them bought Vauxhall Nova's and proceeded to make them look worse than they did originally.
Wow, truly original thinking that. Nova's are just so so rare...
Then 3 of them decided to move to an Escort instead
The cars themselves are fine, not my sort of thing. But pretty pointless --- no, actually more than this. They ARE the cars not to buy, if you want something different to everyone else.
While they were all pissing around with their 1.2 and 1.4 litre cars, I went and bought this (I was 19...), for half the cost of the next cheapest car in our circle.
Not only was it far nicer inside than any of the Nova's, it was also way more powerful and vastly faster. Not too mentioned made a rather awesome noise too from the 5.3 litre V12.

I feel rather sorry for anyone who worries about whether other people will think they're "chav". It just seems so sad to worry that much about what strangers will think of you.
This 1000%People will find reasons to hate you, doesn't matter if you have a standard corsa or Ferrari
Your Ferrari will be too "flash" and your corsa to "council"
Makes no difference.
Just laugh when you see them frowning and at that precise point you should realise that you are winning in this little game we call life.
The moment someone from a bog standard silver ford focus or grey keyboard can control how you act and feel, precisely at that point you are losing very very badly at this game we call life.
So start living and stop worrying.
1 reason that I love and visit this site is that I get to laugh at threads like these which in turn motivates me to not want to be anything like the heard and to keep doing me, in turn keeping my cycle of success going.
Individuality is life. Embrace it. Smile more and be stronger.

I do not believe anyone thinks vehicles like those look good. I do truly believe people think that they 'should' like them, because surely they must be cool. So they therefore 'claim' to like them. But deep down they know the truth, even if they are unwilling to admit it to themselves. But the work looks quality, and believe it or not, different people like different things, the mere fact that people bought Chrysler PT cruisers of their own free will to drive around in should prove that.

It's probably the same with people who have stupid haircuts, like this for example:
Sure they might think it's fun at the time, but in years to come they'll look back and think, my word that looked utterly stupid.

Everyone's different, embrace that rather than trying to feel morally superior would be my advice.

F.U.N. "FUN"

I've modded the hell out of a number of cars but never, ever, did I do it because I thought it meant I was "winning". I did it because I liked it.
That attitude is not really any different to the holier-than-thou "you shalt not mod lest you be council" crowd, you're just coming at it from the opposite side. Feeling superior to others, because of a car. Really?

As long as someone gets enjoyment out of stancing his/her bright pink vauxhall astra, who are we to judge? Ive done plenty of things i would frown upon at my current age and place in life, does that mean i did not really enjoy it at the time? not at all.
As to your point about your mates with novas/escorts, you again assume they want to be different from the other folk. Perhaps they just think a nova looks cooler with a massive spoiler on the back, and wanted that on their own car, no matter how many others have the same spoiler.

That's a rather sweeping statement; I too am not a fan of that style but I'd wager that if you asked them, that the people who made/paid for the mods would be. 'fk Yeah! - these look great.' (and who would we be to argue with them.) charltjr said:

"Do what tho wilt" is all I'm saying, never be a slave to others insecurities.
So however you feel is however "you" feel.
So were really not just talking about cars, I'm talking in reference to all aspects of life.

I was under the impression that the car industry looks to the modding scene in general for guidance for at least performance models. Back when everything had shiny metal bumpers, 12" wheels and a lofty ride height the modders generally improved things.
I prefer race inspired exterior mods on cars, functional the better, but only if the overall effect has a race theme. I've modified my car but only under the bonnet so you would only guess if you saw the exhaust. More power and a better sound is enough unless I had money to burn for a full conversion.
