Mk3 has 4WD but the I5 in the Mk2 sounds a million times better than the I4 in the newer one. I'd personally go for Mk2 because it also actually looks like a real hot hatch.

What's Mk2 like in the wet ?
Torque steer an issue ?
Turn in as sharp as mk3?

Its a no brainer. The mk3 is a much better car in every measurable area except how it sounds which is still very good.

Apparently some say it doesn't look "in your face" enough but it certainly looks just as lairy as my impreza which is never said to be tame to look at.

Go and sit in a Mk2. The Mk3 interior isn't great but the Mk2 now feels prehistoric

I think I missed the boat with Rally Reps, the RB5 was always near the top for me. Held in very high regard.

Keep it for high days and holidays, probably a safe way of keeping money!

Sorry for the thread drift OP. I would probaby go for the new RS, although I would go meg trophy over that if going down the hot hatch route.

Yep RS is mine too, loving it. Sharp to drive, all the toys, makes a lovely sound and gets compliments everywhere.

I guess I'm a chav at heart as I like cars that are visually striking. I'm not so much into the low key stuff.

Thats what the RS is for. Unfortunately I only have 1 garage and an S60R as a daily. Really should sell the RB5 as I can only really have 1 toy car. We'll see.

Because he's a Renault man wink

To be fair they are quite a bargain but I still think they will depreciate a fair bit more than the Focus.

Im a bit of a ludite! I prefer a bit more of a raw car with mechanical features. I just like an old fashined diff on a hot hatch. The ohlins set up over adaptive dampers etc. I see the meg trophy as the best and last of a certain era of hatches. From first press info on the new meg, not my cup of tea.
