The 4wd made the Mk3 as fast off the mark in the wet as the MK2 was in the dry when they tested them.

Do like the quattro-esque noise of the 5-cylinder though - sometimes hear one late at night on the local bypass and the noise reminds me of standing in dark Welsh forests waiting for the Group B cars, especially with the pops/bangs on gear changes smile

Progress though, the new one whoops the old road going RS200

Yes quite a compelling package . Fair play to the mk2 though not far off new purchase price still

Lets be honest though, its really not, but I guess someone always prefers the original version of any car despite later models being better.

MK2's are too bloody expensive for what they are. They are fantastic, but they are definitely not worth £20k or whatever they are demanding right now. Between the two, MK3 all the way, solely based on the cost alone.
I guess they are "worth" whatever they are selling for, like any item.

Aaaaahhh, it's the Aaaabhefive mk3 wkfest.

Yes it's definitely the best, & for everyone else the mk2 is worth 12k tops.....

Mk1, paaah, might as well have a Zetec.

Insightful post there. Anything constructive to add? Anything at all?

You don't have to read the thread if all you can add is childish comments. Everything was in good spirits prior to your errm "contribution".

Also the mk1 does have a zetec but one rebadged as a duratec.

Is the mk3 likely to hold its value as well as the mk2?

Good question and also part of my considerations .
I had decided on a 140m BMW but then as an all year round package i think the RS comes out on top . Plus I think in 3yrs the focus is still worth low 20's ? So call it 3.5k a year in depreciation is more than acceptable for a new car .

Have always been drawn to look at the mk2 when I've seen them but they are clearly more overstated than the mk3 .

The missus is insistent on a grey car is I go RS and not nitrous blue just to go further under the radar !

It certainly will. The mk2 will start to depreciate as the mk3 drops to its level. They will both hold valu really well as all RS cars do. Even ST's are very slow to depreciate. A 2006 ST with lowish mileage is still worth £7k.

For the cash that's a cracking little buy . I know of someone that's got a 56 plate that's been brilliantly modified not that from the outside you'd know it . Drives brilliantly although with the extra power the front does suffer from understeer .
Mk2/3 RS way to go for me, in all likelihood the mk3 for its practicality, subdued looks and 4wd capabilities plus I'll be adding 8k miles+ per year

Apparently some say it doesn't look "in your face" enough but it certainly looks just as lairy as my impreza which is never said to be tame to look at.
Are they both yours?

Superb, lick

I'd take the Focus in grey personally, but I can see why you'd want something different against the (lovely) RB5.

I'm the same m8. Why Meg trophy over mk3?
Because he's a Renault man wink

To be fair they are quite a bargain but I still think they will depreciate a fair bit more than the Focus.
Sorry I confused two posts .

Yes I agree Meg great car but will depeciate more ford for me
I'm not sure a 275 cup megane with ohlins and akrapovic exhaust will lose much value, especially if the new megane is heavy/auto/crap. Could be a good investment actually.

Mk2. A very pretty car.
I'm not sure it's pretty in my eyes but it looks more purposeful and like a WRC car, which makes it cooler in my eyes.

The MKIII RS will be a quicker car but I've never been keen on the current shape of the Focus and even in RS guise, it just doesn't work for me.

Thanks. They are indeed both mine. I should really sell the RB5 but love it too much.

Mk3.

If you want a mk2 save 10 grand and get an st and spend 1-2k on mods to achieve similar performance

Both cars seem to be almost depreciation free in the short term, so why not get a MK2 for 6 months and if you don't like it get a MK3? smile
