Probably.

Except being the only F1 on that trip everyone knows which one it is, and apparently it has had a complete rebuild in the past when a mechanic crashed it late at night (before the current owner purchased the car)

I need to buy some McDonald's restaurants so I can buy an F1!!

The McLaren F1 community is that small that any public crash is going to be known to all, surely.

Was Rowan's car seriously devalued after ripping it apart ?

From what I can remember it had no adverse effect on the value of the car.

Didn't think it did, still sold for millions.

Seem to remember it was reckoned to be even better than before the crash, as the rebuild had been so extensive

What's the deal with F1 parts? Does Mclaren have absolutely every itty bitty part design retained and can run it up?

You're probably better off asking in the flemke thread for an answer to this.

Depends on the parts, on some of the cars you could make do with raiding the BMW or even a Vauxhall parts counter.

Wow, what a road to crash on!

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Glenorchy-Quee...

I suppose the scenery would keep you occupied whilst recovery showed up.
To be fair, there's a lot of roads out there with those views...fantastic part of the world, and probably one of the reasons that location was chosen.

That said, the local police aren't known for their tolerance - got pulled over and issued a ticket for doing 130 in a 100 between Qu'town and Manapouri (which was funny, as the speedo was reading no more than 120 at any point on the drive scratchchin ). Doubly frustrating as we were the only car on the road (except the copper hidden ahead under the trees) for ~10 minutes and the road was dead straight, dry and in daylight...
Lots of nice roads around there but the QT->Glenorchy road is a step above.

Just the exact spot they crashed doesnt actually have much of a view. I think the driver was tired/hungover more than anything.

Through summer and long weekends our police have a zero tolerance mode for speeding. 101 could potentially get you pulled ( tho more likely 104+).

Will be driving that road in a few weeks...

A close friend moved to NZ last year, albeit wellington on north island but I'm hoping to get down there in the next few years and will see it for myself! smile
