I did some work in a bunch of Fiat showrooms last week and they ALL had one!

Front view looks much better in the flesh than in pics, the contoured bonnet looks quite muscular. Not better than the MX5, just... different.

The back end looks like a 1980s kit car...

A bit of googling leads me to believe this is a homage to the original 124...

But I definitely prefer the MX5 rear end.

Now, you see, I reckon the MX-5 loks like one of those grp bolt on bodies for a BMW Z3 or something. It looks a lot more like a kitcar than the Fiat.

Lovely though the 124 Spyder was in its original form the 124 Coupe was even nicer. And I suspect almost completely extinct. Anybody seen one in last ten years ?

Been a yellow coupe around Lewisham/Blackheath for a long time.

The Fiat looks European, the Mazda looks more Japanese than any other MX5 has done. The back end of the Mazda is awful, though looks are so much about personal taste. As someone old enough to want cars to look like cars, I much prefer the traditional lines of the Fiat.

I've sat in a couple of 124s and like it a lot - would prefer to go for the Abarth except I seriously dislike the two-tone look.

I'm probably due a new car soonish and haven't seen anything more interesting at the price ....

I work a few doors up from a Lotus and Arbarth dealership so see one every day - sorry, doesn't do it for me.

Just seems too generic in my eyes from the outside, shame as i love 2 seaters but this is very meh

The black bonnet and bootlid is an option, you don't have to have it. Depending upon which colour you go for, you can even do away with the red accents on the body kit.

In reply to the original question from the OP, yes I have seen one - in my garage for the last 5 weeks or so....!
I bought a 124 Abarth spider as I needed a more practical 2nd car and it is fantastic.
I love it - completely different to my previous car - a Caterham R400, but it's a brilliant roadster (not an all out sports car) and it puts a smile on my face when I drive it.
Have had loads of positive attention and it makes a great noise.

Agreed.

Mine's black on black and I didn't go for the Heritage option either. Mine's No. 069...
