Been thinking what car mum may like next.

She's had a Focus CC for 5 years and bought almost new.
She never wanted a white car or 3 doors (but has) but has love being able to take the roof down when it's been good weather to do so.

Looking at changing next year and budget is around 20-25k. Less is better. Want's as new as she can afford.

So what would people suggest
it must have:
hard top and 4 seats. I think she will put up with 3 doors.

I've said the Mazda MX5 RZ would be great for her but the lack of rear seats puts her off and I can't convince her to go for 2 seats. Not that she really needs them very often.

So suggestions on what to point her towards

Just been looking at my local Audi dealer network and seems to be the odd nice Audi out there she may like.

So a great start

The obvious options are the A5, 3-series and E-class cabriolet. Then there's the slightly more odd-ball options like the Volvo V70.

The 2-series and A3 are both available as convertibles, too. Or she'd get a brand new Golf Cabriolet in budget.

Vauxhall Cascada also available as a leftfield choice.

Looks quite smart IMO, and should be much cheaper than most of the above due to the VX badge.

Some more good info all. The Vauxhall does not look bad but i've not been a fan since our last VX we had that was utter crap. So put me/us off the brand

Alllways think how nice those Cascadas look on the rare occasion that you see one.

Mercedes E class seems like the default choice.

She can get a brand new Golf convertible for that sort of money.
They look quite good in dark colours, but crap in white.

The VW Eos is often overlooked but would do the job for a fraction of the budget. Similarly, Chrysler Crossfire.

Don't know about Eos leakage.

Crossfire admittedly too old now.

It's not a sector I've looked at but do those suggestions have hard tops?

There aren't many hard top 4 seaters available:

BMW 3/4 series
Volvo C70
Lexus IS Convertible
VW EOS
Ford Focus CC

I believe that's it. I also think most of those have been out of production for long enough that your budget would buy two. The Volvo C70 went out of production 3 years ago so you'd struggle to spend more than £15k on one, for example. I've been pleased with my 2008 C70, but withh your budget and the hard top as a prerequisite I think the only sensible option is a 3/4 series.

I'd advise avoiding anything that is pretending to be "sporty" with hard suspension, as a 4 seater convertible is always going to be about as sporty as Jo Brand and you just ruin it for no gain by giving it st ride quality. Maybe it was just the trim spec I tried but I found the A5 cabriolet to have the traditional "crashingly inept" suspension setup Audi are famous for.

Conveniently ignoring the hard top request and the budget, Land Rover Evoque.

We were looking at the V70s, but owners report roof lowering issues wink

Left field perhaps, but what about a DS3 cabrio...sliding roof for the sun, full door frames for roll over safety.
Starts at £19K, so lots of room for goodies (I mean luxuries, obviously, not Graeme Garden, Bill Oddie, and Tim Brook-Taylor smile)
