I like fast estates but this (red) one does nothing for me. Wheels are far too big, bordering on ridiculous and look like they've just been bought from Halfords and then there's the stance and huge arch gap that makes it looks like an Audi All-Roader - just needs the plastic trim round the bottom half of the panels to complete it. I don't think the Golf R Estate is anything to look at either but I kinda like it for the fact the badges could be removed and it easily be a sleeper to all but the untrained eye.
Agree with all of that but I think the Leon is even more of a sleeper as it is similarly subtle in terms of body kit with the added bonus of only having 2 exhausts. I actually saw a photo of a 290 with smaller winter wheels on and despite being in one of the brightest colours (alor blue) it looked like a Korean shopping car that a pensioner would cut about in.

No offence to Leon owners. Mine is actually being delivered next week.

what tweaks did you do then?
- 18" OZ ultraleggera wheels (-5kg each compared to stock (and - 3kg compared to PP wheels) and 18" just feels more right) with excellent PS4 tyres
- EU6 catted downpipe (HJS) - works perfect with original software and has removed most of the bothersome turbo lag below ~3k rpm and should keep warranty intact (eu approved replacement part)
- Shortshift kit (-15%) and little rubber under the clutchpedal - oem system was, well, very much mainstream Golf like, now much more enjoyable.
- 25mm rear arb to make that rear end come into play (to be fitted - already sure I'll love it)
- Switched off that awful sound generator, I rather have a quiet car instead. Replaced front silencer (Fox) for a little bit of real engine sound from the otherwise completely silent oem system.

Car bought from my own money, tweaks after selling the original parts cost me no more than a DSG box and a sunroof (both left out on purpose) or so.

Oh, and love the looks, dicreet at first but good looking on second appraisal, which suits me just fine as it's my daily parked outside.

Nice.

I did some similar mods to my last vRS, light wheels, ARB etc. It always surprises me when the "default" first mod people seem to want to do is a re-map, when that will invalidate warranty and there are such great gains to be made with good suspension/brakes that won't cause you a issue.

They are plenty quick as is, but the temptation to make even quicker again is there for many. Folks have then running 62-125mph in 10s or so... Something I'd never use. Edit: biggest problem is to find roads where all the performance can be used responsibility...

Forgot a mod. More a correction. Lower engine mount insert, stock the car can suffer from sometimes all too violent axle tramp, an insert reduces that.

Been looking into this for when mine arrives, as I have heard the 'wheel hop'/axle tramp can be a bit of a problem. Which insert did you go for - Neuspeed, Powerflex or something else? Could you give a mini-review? Cheers.

Sure. First, there are two versions of the bushing. I have the less common one. First tried the 034motorsport metal insert. It wasn't developed properly for my version and suffered high NVH. Modified mine, but still there was a step up in noise as the metal tap caught on that I didn't like. They also seem to bend all of them. Would still hop too, bit less violent only. So decided I didn't like it (they offered a revised version) and now have the Neuspeed urethane insert instead. No added NVH except a little when reversing out of standstill. Still some hopping but far less violent. Suspect it could perform a bit better if engineered to fit my mount version 100%.

Now Powerflex have released a comprehensive line up to fit both mounts, in different hardnesses. If I would start from nill, I would try their insert first that was made specifically for my mount. They also have a hybrid version where the lower half of the original bushing is replaced completely. Bought it and will mount it when doing the intermediate oil change. Hoping it will improve on the compromise between NVH and even less hopping.
Cheers

Cheers mate, useful stuff! Will give the Powerflex insert a go initially. Guess I have to wait to receive the car before I know which version (A or B) I require?

Are these mounts difficult to fit?

Yep, first when you've got the car can you check what version you got.

Insert is easy and can be inserted from below the car after removing one bolt. The hybrid, getting the old bush out is potentially a PITA.

Interesting, as one person who was looking to order a new S4 next year this could sway me, had discounted the ST as it wasn't a 4WD model and the S4 is.. Shall have to get a go when the local dealer gets one as a demo before ordering me thinks!

It's not the type of car I buy but I have to say SEAT produce some cracking looking cars these days.

I'd have one over a VW or Audi any day.

SEAT has style,
