Two found Dead in Fiesta - Possible Chemical leak?
Discussion
Excuse the Wail link, which incidentally has the most outrageous Headline.
Seems like Carbon Monoxide poisoning. Possible exhaust leak on a still day, heaters and blowers on full whack?

I remember reading a paramedic safety bulletin about a trend from a few years ago for suicide in vehicles where the occupant would mix household chemicals to poison themselves (the bulletin was warning about opening the door and breathing in the toxic gases).
However, the location does not seem typical for a double suicide. We will just have to wait for the facts.

Mail getting details wrong as usual with Focus.
Doesn't sound like carbon monoxide with a "bang" heard inside the car, most odd.
One of the Neighbours was quoted as saying it sounded like an exhaust bang. Apparently the lad had just had some modifications done to it so was probably trying it out. Doesn't sound like carbon monoxide with a "bang" heard inside the car, most odd.
Whatever happened it's very sad

A few on the ST forum are blaming a certain remap which adds F Type pops and bangs to the standard car for the exhaust bangs. The car bares the stickers of the particular tuning co which supplies the map. Doesn't sound like carbon monoxide with a "bang" heard inside the car, most odd.
Just how they died is anyone's guess.

Which forums are discussing that? Can't find it anywhere and have no idea how a remap could get gases into the car so curious to read what's being said.Just how they died is anyone's guess.

The Fiesta ST forum. The thread may well have been deleted by now. I must add that it's not the map at fault here just the possible cause of the exhaust bangs..
Whatever caused the deaths should be completely unrelated.

pretty obvious if the exhaust is leaking... bloody stinks.
That said... most modern cars are very well insulated, and catalytic converters remove the vast majority of CO, so I find it hard to believe they were overcome by fumes.
If the leak comes from the manifold though, and gets pulled into the HVAC system though...That said... most modern cars are very well insulated, and catalytic converters remove the vast majority of CO, so I find it hard to believe they were overcome by fumes.
That's well before any post combustion treatment.
