Extremely disappointed in the new Renault Twingo GT. Yes it is not a full fat Renault Sport model but what has happened to Renault.

They were the manufacture to go to if you wanted a spot on hot hatch. Even their warm hatches were pretty good.

Now everything seems to be going in the wrong direction and going by the above test it is not getting any better frown

R.I.P Renault Sport???

Misleading thread title

Ask anyone who drove a rear engined Skoda or Porsche all those years ago, rear engine + short wheelbase + more power equals a very tricky handling car.

This car isn't even the full RenaultSport model but you can bet that the FWD RS Clio / Megane will be proper hot hatches even if the little rear engined Twingo is a bit of a poor relation.

(Yes, I am a petrolhead- a RWD hot hatch should be welcomed and applauded, but it's not necessarily going to drive in the way nowadays hot hatch buyers have come to expect so it probably won't be so hard core- It'll be set up 'safe')

Sound quite fun to me, 109BHP and a tonne. I've owned a Fiesta Zetec S with similar figures and it was a hoot.

I'd be more interested on what Evo have to say about it.

Sounds alright to me - it is only a GT after all, not a full-bore RS product.

That extra air vent over the rear wing looks great too, I love silly details like that. Obviously a completely different ballpark, but kinda like the missing headlight on a Charger Hellcat.

I can't see Renault running hydraulic lines aft to fore in the car so unless the steering is unassisted, I'd guess 'yes'.

Twill be a hoot to drive. I still have fond memories of hooning around Fontainbleau Forest in one of the original Twingo's back in the early 90's before there were laws.

It's not a full fat RS is it, merely a GT?

Either way, whilst it's hardly the last word in performance I bet it would be an absolute hoot to cane down a twisty back road as it's small, light and reasonably brisk - fun fun fun.

Thanks. I hadn't thought of the practicalities of running hydraulic plumbing forward.

I just saw the bit in the review that mentioned the steering feeling wasn't up to much.

What a crap title rofl

It's a GT, the old Twingo GT was a 1.2 turbo with 100bhp, this has 110bhp, and better spec. It's a better car all round than the old GT.

I know some Smarts have no PAS- modern consumers have come to expect it but with the engine in the back and skinny front tyres you can really do without it. Would've been preferable to ePAS in my opinion... Anything is preferable to ePAS.

Not full fat but it is a Renault Sport car.

The full fat Clio is not exactly the car many hoped it would be.

Perhaps the full fat Gordini version will do without PAS?

Pulling the ePAS fuse would work?

Hate to drive the old one.

The Twingo GT is the fastest and best-looking model in the range, but with a stiffer ride, a steeper asking price and very tame driving dynamics it struggles to make a strong case for itself.

Indeed. And...

RIP AMG.

I'm sure Audi do some st like this, too.
Yep, they have the S-Line. To a lesser degree, ford also do it with their new ST-Line

Autoexpress are definitely the last word in car reviews.

Stiffer ride, yes, it's the GT model
Steeper asking price, yes, it's the top spec GT model
Tame driving dynamics, yes it's a 5 door hatch with a 0.9 turbo engine.

So go ahead, take their word for it, or you know, make your own mind up.
