^^

I see your point, seems odd that a z3 should be put down for being built on a highly regarded chassis.

That said the Z3 is based on the older E30 generation of 3 series

Realoem parts database lists it under E36 but the rear suspension was essentially E30 but that is all. The model number is E36/7 for the roadster and E36/8 for the coupé.

Yes the same basic rear axle as the legendary E30 M3.

I've never ben able to get my head around the bland cack-handed styling of the Boxster, until the current model that is. Looks even more boring in silver.

The SLK rear looks too angular but comes across as the more grown-up car suited to real-life day to day driving conditions & variable weather, in the UK especially. In any case Mercedes trumps a BMW or Porsche any day, unless you're a smart-alec salesman or office girl.

As I recall the Boxster was always the best drivers car, Mercedes, generally if it had the larger engines was a nearly car and the Z3 mostly forgettable.

Oh come on, even James Bond couldn't make the Z3 look good.

The old man was fond of his 1.9 Z3 back in the day, I know that much. Wasn't going to win any races on the straights or in the corners, he tells me, but it was apparently amusing just for the amount of fannying about it allowed for once you switched the traction control off.

So much like the E36 compact, right?
