I'm sure I'm being really silly but I cant seem to get the option menu shown at this point in the video! Does this subsection allow me to set my car to default to sport mode? Apologies for the ignorance, I haven't had the car very long!!
This is almost certainly an RTFM moment.

Just had a chance to watch the video.

How are they similar in a straight line ? The mk3 is 4.7 and the mk2 is 5,9ish

Think as already stated a 5 door never looks as sporty as a 3 door just like the BMW 140 5 door isn't as nice looking as the 3.

I do think the 2 is a better looking car if you're into aggressive looking hot hatches and the seating position may be better in the 2 but can the 3's seating position not be retro adjusted ?

Actually I've worked it out, buy both, the 3 is the brilliant daily hack and the 2 is the sunny day Sunday morning 6am blaster and car show motor :-)

Easy way to solve the high seating position is order the standard seats which come with height adjustment and are heated, they are also more comfy imo (still Recaro) offer great support and don't cost £1000 and have knackered bolsters after a year or two.. but everyone jumps on the CS seat bandwagon without giving the standard seats a go - unfairly imo.

As for the MK2 vs MK3 debate it was the same when the MK1 came out, people saying its a "purple pram", not a cossie, crap fwd etc etc - now look its sought after and a classic, MK2 came out and once again everyone jumped on it saying it looked like it had crashed into halfords, was fat, and a "volvo".. and now we have the MK3 and all of a sudden that's fat, and crap and boring..

Mark my words when the MK4 comes out the MK3 will suddenly be the car to own..

Whether that's down to Ford design maturing with age, or just depreciation meaning people can afford them more easily and then realise how good they are... I don't know.

There is no mention of it in the Manual. But thanks for the advice....

If I recall there is a button for drive modes, and a button next/near to it to adjusting the suspension independently.
You can also use the indicator stalk to navigate through the instrument cluster menu.

I test drove one ages ago, so can't recall for definite.

Some Ford's without the screen in the cluster will use the stereo to control bits, so if its not in the cluster go through the vehicle settings option on the stereo.

HTH.

Left hand indicator stalk end button switches them independently of mode...

Meanwhile while the Mk III's driver is still faffing around with buttons the Mk II has just completed a lap of the track

I bet it doesn't.. I don't see why Ford would claim this, it seems odd. I know they do claim it, but I smell bullst. Nobody quotes weights including the driver - hell, for a little bit more weight saving throughout the car they could've wheeled out a "launch edition" under 1500kgs, which we'd all have been very impressed about (and would've skewed our judgements (positively) forever more). I'd put money on it actually just weighing 1600kgs.

Mk2 every day for me - it's not my favourite hatch as I think it always looked very heavy, but it's hands down more desirable and genuine than the new car.
For me a fwd car with a 2.5 engine that looks like a rally car but isn't more genuine than a genius AWD RS model, the car that everyone has been telling Ford they should have built since the Escort Cosworth died a death?

http://www.focusrs.org/forum/16-focus-rs-performan...
x2 examples where it has been weighed with full tanks of fuel (no driver) and it's come in at 1547kg and 1564kg which isn't far off the quoted 1524kg without driver (of course options wise the 1524kg will have been the best possible options for the best weight)
sunroof adds 17kg, forged alloys drops 4kg, Recaro CS option probably takes some weight off also.

There was 1100 registered by the end of Q2 so you can treble that amount by now - so over a 100 isn't really a big number

For example there's 30 Cayman GT4 for sale and how many of those landed in the UK?

A lot more than Porsche would have you believe .

They originally said it'll be in the region of 300 for the uk but it's way more ,
I had one in Jan of this year and was at least 8th with my dealer .

The hype is a little over at the mo akthough the GT4 is a great car for the money. For some though it's not got the Porsche Motorsport engine so there are not a special in their eyes .

Having owned just about all of the Motorsport cars I'd prob go back to a 997 GT3

My point being that the ratio of 30 GT4 compared to 100 RS won't equate when you see the total numbers of both cars.

Both cars have attracted the private and trade speculators, from what I'm seeing a lot of RS owners are even buying their 2nd car and selling off the earlier car, perhaps ordering their own spec or adding the winter pack and the Sync3 who knows.

Are the numbers for sale indicative of either the number of people who have bought one, and are dissatisfied with it, or those that have purchased one and stuck it straight up for sale in the hop of ensnaring some daft sod who will pay a premium in return for not having to wait 'X' months for a new one to be delivered.
Again, the cost/value thing tumbles down the pyramid, shoring up the Mk2 prices, and possibly th mk1.
I like the tech of the mk3, although to be fair I'm firmly antediluvian with regards to the RS brand, and my interest ends when the Escort Cosworth ceased production.
Personally I'd buy a Mk2 over a mk3, and a mk1 over a mk2, but push come to shove, I'd bag a 3dr Cosworth (again) or funds allowing, a mint Sapphire 4x4 or an Escort Cosworth.
Every generation just seems to be further from what an RS should be to me, which is probably why the RSOC is underpinned by the older RS marques?

I've just ordered a new bike for March next year, if I had not I'd be chopping in my MK1 RS for a MK3.

One thing I would say in favour of the Mk3 is middle aged people wont look a bit silly driving it. When supply catches up with demand I wonder what the brokers will be knocking them out at ?

The lines are being switched to Mk4 Focus in the summer so at some point between now and probably March time the order book will close on it

They actually struggled to shift all the Mk2's as well..
