I'm 18 and looking for a car roughly around a 1.6 engine with relatively low insurance.

I've been looking around for a while and I've thought about a 1.6 Fiesta Zetec s around 2006-07, and also a clio 1.6 VVT.

Just wondering if anybody would recommend either of these, or of anything else that would be better.

I've currently got a mk2 1.2 clio and just looking for something a bit faster and newer.

Thanks

For some reason they seem to be very tight about engine sizes and not correlating them to the real world, I'm 20, 0 years experience and I could insure a 15 plate 1.2 TSI Polo for significantly less than a less powerful car with larger displacement - maybe the new breed of turbocharged petrols with tiny engines would be worth investigating? Alternatively the Parkers "search by insurance group" method yields fair results and helped me scope out my first car which I could insure for a reasonable sum while ticking my practicality and comfort needs.

Thank you for your response, and I'll have a look at that on the parkers website.

Try a skoda or even a volvo S40

Both are normally reasonable on insurance excluding the sportier models

I've got a 1.6 turbo Citroen DS3. Would have been 1700 to insure in my second year driving at 18. Got points and now its through the roof rolleyes

A pal has a 1.0 Fiesta Zetec S, feels peppy enough, insurance isn't bad either.

Corsa D black edition 1.4T if you can get past the Vauxhall badge, pulls well considering the power and makes a nice noise standard.

You'd be amazed how cheaply you can insure a BMW 1 Series, obviously on finance or a lease though so depends what you're comfortable with.

Other notable mentions:

Twingo RS - bit oddball
Abarth 500 - Insurance wasn't horrendous when I was looking at them, although probably more than anything else I've mentioned.
Ibiza 1.4Tsi - My dad has a 66 plate one, I was amazed at the level of kit it came with, handles quite well too.

Forgot to mention swift sport, new model preferable however depends on your budget, apparently the older shape is just as fun!

Clio. Alright things I suppose, hateful name though.
